American Express Canada has launched a new charge card for Canadians, the American Express Gold Rewards Card. Cardmembers earn double Membership Rewards points on travel purchases (flights, hotels, car rentals, cruises and packages) as well as eligible gas, grocery and drugstore charges. All other purchases earn one point per dollar spent.

Cardmembers can choose to transfer points to participating frequent flyer or hotel loyalty programs or redeem their points for travel with TripFlex Rewards. After charging any travel expense to your card, call the number on the back of the card to redeem points for a credit that will cover the entire or partial amount of your flight, car rental, cruise, vacation package or other eligible travel expense. You have up to 12 months to redeem your points for a statement credit. The minimum redemption requirement is 1,000 points for a CAD$10 credit. The card has a CAD$150 annual fee, waived the first year, and new cardmembers receive a sign-up bonus of 15,000 points after spending CAD$500 in the first three months.
