Now that Delta and Northwest have merged and Continental and United are expected to complete a merger by the end of this year, there has been speculation that American and US Airways, the last remaining airlines of the original “Big Six”, may join forces. At a shareholder meeting last month, however, US Airways CEO Doug Parker says US Airways is not looking to merge with any other carrier and that, “We are purely happy with our stand-alone status.”
