Alaska Airlines is now offering travelers the option to purchase additional miles at a discounted price when you book a flight at alaskaair.com. With Fly & Buy Miles, Mileage Plan members can add a few more miles to their account without paying full price for the miles. The rates are discounted according to how many miles you buy and a maximum of 5,000 miles may be purchased with Fly & Buy. The offer is similar to United’s Award Accelerator and after you select your tickets and enter your traveler information at alaskaair.com, you can choose to purchase 1,000 miles for $25, 2,500 miles for $62 or 5,000 miles for $109, plus a 7.5 percent tax. Miles are nonrefundable and purchased miles do not count for elite qualification. The regular rate for buying miles is $27.50 per 1,000 miles plus a 7.5 percent tax, which means you’ll save a whopping $2.50 for purchases of 1,000 miles. But if you purchase 5,000 miles, you can save $28.50 off the regular price. Buying miles, even with the discount, is relatively expensive so we only recommend this option if you need to quickly top off your account to reach an award level.
