Delta Celebrates

Delta has a lot to celebrate. SkyMiles is 25 years old this year and the airline emerged from Chapter 11 on May 1. As part of the SkyMiles celebration of its 25th anniversary, the program awarded Saturn SKY roadsters to 25 lucky members who participated in a sweepstakes contest. The winners received keys to their new cars at an anniversary celebration held at Delta’s corporate headquarters in Atlanta on April 20. Delta also recognized the SkyMiles program’s first 10 Million Miler, David Shafer, at the ceremony.

A recent event unveiling Delta’s new logo and emergence from bankruptcy was attended by FlyerTalker and moderator in the Delta forum, Canarsie, who was invited to join in the festivities and blog about his experiences. His blog includes descriptions of the unveiling of the new Delta logo on a gleaming aircraft and speeches by Delta officials. He writes that Jerry Grinstein talked about Delta’s plans to expand internationally and he “is confident that a nonstop route between Atlanta and Shanghai in China will be in place next year, with continued expansion into Asia.” You can read Canarsie’s blog at http://insideflyerus.wpengine.com/link/?377

Delta has introduced a couple of improvements to its onboard flight experience on select flights. An HBO channel will be offered to domestic first class and BusinessElite customers for free and will be available in coach for $5 per feature film and $2 for all other programs. A new cocktail program, Midnight Sky cocktails, features four cocktails that will change every four months. The drinks will be offered on all domestic and international Delta mainline flights, select Delta Connection flights and in airport lounges. After all that Delta has been through this past year, we say that raising a glass in their honor would not be out of place. And congratulations, SkyMiles, on your 25th anniversary.
