US Airways has automated their upgrade process for elite members. Complimentary elite upgrades are prioritized based on the class of fare purchased and Preferred level. If two elite members purchased the same fare class ticket and are in the same elite level, the member with more 2007 Preferred Qualifying Miles will receive upgrade priority. For members who book a full fare (Y or B class) coach ticket, you can request an upgrade when you purchase the ticket. For all other discount booking classes, upgrades will automatically be processed according to elite level. Upgrade requests for Chairmen members will begin seven days prior to flight, four days prior for Platinum, three days prior for Gold and two days for Silver members. A notification e-mail will let you know the status of your upgrade. If no upgrades are available, you may automatically be upgraded at check-in. If not, you can select the “Add to standby list” when checking online or ask to be put on the standby list at the check-in counter.
