Starwood Preferred Guest Card Changes

Starwood Preferred Guest Card Changes

Starwood Preferred Guest credit card holders will receive a new card in the mail by March 2007 with a new look and new benefits. Members using the card will earn double Starpoints on stays at participating Starwood hotels and resorts and purchases made at select retail outlets including Bliss spa, Westin Store, The W Hotels Store, Sheraton Store, and Four Points by Sheraton Store. These points are in addition to any Starpoints members earn using their card wherever American Express cards are accepted. This is good news for those members who are not gold-level members — they will now receive three points instead of two.

The cost of the card remains the same, fee-free the first year and $30 per year thereafter. Starwood is also reintroducing a new card bonus of 10,000 points, when you make your first purchase with the Starwood Preferred Guest Credit Card within one year of card approval.

And when members spend $30,000 or more on the card in a calendar year, they will be rewarded with Gold Preferred status that allows members to earn Starpoints faster with three points per eligible U.S. dollar spent at Starwood hotels (which adds up to four points total) and free automatic room upgrades when available at check-in, and 4pm late check out.
