Study: Frequent Flyers Still Wary of Online Booking

American business travelers continue to use the Internet to book travel, yet many of them still use “offline” services when making itinerary changes, according to findings from a new survey commissioned by Travelport Corporate Solutions.

Conducted by Harris Interactive, the survey found that although more than half (52 percent) of American business travelers book their business travel online, one-third (33 percent) still use “offline” channels such as traditional travel agents to make or amend their business travel reservations.

The survey found that half (49 percent) of travelers still use “offline” services simply to have an actual person confirm that what is booked online is actually booked.

When asked about online services, 19 percent of respondents like having their personal information like frequent flyer numbers and supplier preferences pre-loaded in the booking process.

Harris Interactive fielded the study from July 20-22, 2004, interviewing a nationwide sample of 2,169 adults with online access, of whom 631 travel for business purposes.
