American AAdvantage has announced increases of 12.5 to 25 percent on select mileage awards claimed on or after May 1, 2003. For domestic travel in the U.S. and Canada, PlanAAhead First/Business-class awards will rise from 40,000 to 45,000 miles; AAnytime Economy awards will increase from 40,000 to 50,000; and AAnytime First/Business-class awards from 80,000 to 90,000 miles.

For travel from North America to Hawaii, PlanAAhead First/Business-class awards jump from 60,000 to 75,000 miles; PlanAAhead Premium from 80,000 to 95,000; AAnytime First/Business Class from 120,000 to 150,000 miles and AAnytime Premium class from 160,000 to 190,000 miles.

NOTE: Many readers have misinterpreted the changes. AAdvantage is NOT changing the number of miles required for a typical PlanAAhead award-these remain at 25,000 miles.
