Oh, What a Tangled Web We Weave…

A judge in Hawaii recently ordered Mainline Airways to cease selling fares from Los Angeles to Honolulu, on the grounds that the “airline” had no actual “airplanes.”

The company, run by 18-year-old college student Luke Thompson, was selling discounted one-way fares to Hawaii from its Web site. When the Hawaii Office of Consumer Protection realized that the company had not filed any of the necessary paperwork with the federal government, it sought a restraining order against Mainline.

When contacted by the media, Thompson acknowledged the company owned no airplanes, but insisted that the company was simply a tour provider, despite its name.
