Very quietly, Northwest WorldPerks has launched the WorldPerks Visa MarketPlace, an online shopping opportunity for holders of the WorldPerks Visa card. We sat down with Paul Long, partner manager for WorldPerks Partner Marketing, to find out what’s going on.

Tell us about the new WorldPerks Visa MarketPlace.
Long:
The basic premise is to provide our Visa cardholders, who are some of our best WorldPerks members, the opportunity to get additional miles and other special offers from select WorldPerks Partners.

IF:
Do you need to be an actual WorldPerks Visa cardholder to get into the site? Is it a private mall?
Long:
Yes, it is sort of like a private mall. In order to receive the special discounts from participating partners you do have to go through this Web site page. The terms indicate that you must use your WorldPerks Visa card to get the discounts or bonus offers. It is separate from the WorldPerks Mall, but it also works in conjunction with the WorldPerks Mall because just simply by being a WorldPerks Visa cardholder and signing up for the WorldPerks Visa MarketPlace you get an additional mile per dollar spent at any merchant at the WorldPerks Mall. The MarketPlace launched in April.

IF:
Will this include debit cards?
Long:
It actually does already. The only offer you cannot take advantage of with the WorldPerks Visa check card is the Dollar Rent-A-Car offer, the reason being you can’t use debit cards to rent a car. But, WorldPerks Visa check cardholders are eligible for the WorldPerks Visa MarketPlace.

Did you have a plan when starting this?
Long:
We conducted focus groups with our WorldPerks visa cardholders base. We asked them, what more can we do for you? The cardholders said: “Give us special discounts from some of your partners.” So this is the answer to that. We do want to keep this to a pretty concise number of partners; it’s not going to get as big as the WorldPerks Mall. We want to highlight partners who we work really well with.
