Visualizing the new Alaska Airlines Mileage Plan award chart

Wandering Aramean

Among the many changes announced earlier this week for the Alaska Airlines MileagePlan program was new distance bands for award pricing. The program now offers four different starting prices for awards seats on flights operated by Alaska Airlines, with the rates determined by the distance between the airports. I’m a visual guy and a fan of data so, not surprisingly, I decided to render the new charts on maps.

All the destinations served in the new Alaska Airlines/Virgin America route network. Click an airport to see all the non-stop routes available and award prices.

Load up the site and you’ll see all the airports that Alaska Airlines and Virgin America serve. Click on a city and the map will update to show all the nonstop routes served from there and the starting price for an award trip to that destination.

Keep in mind that these are starting prices and that award rates will vary based on whatever unpublished parameters MileagePlan chooses. But it is a start.

Alaska Airlines’ MileagePlan program has a whole bunch of routes under 700 miles. That a lot of opportunities for 5,000 point rewards.

I’ve done similar for Avios, United MileagePlus and American AAdvantage awards as well.
