Hello Fellow SMD Zurichers. As Tommy mentioned in his email to us:
Upon landing in Zurich, you are responsible to get to and from your hotel. If you're staying at the Park Hyatt Zurich, you can either take the train that frequently goes to downtown Zurich. The train cost 3.20 Swiss franc, so around 3,40USD. The train station is about 0.7 miles from the Park Hyatt Zurich.

    More information here: https://www.sbb.ch/ticketshop/b2c/sprache.do?en

You can also cab it for around 50-60 Swiss franc, so 10-15 bucks per person”.

Since a 0.7 mile walk before and/or after a 12 hour flight isn’t my cup of tea I thought I would get started with an attempt at cab or shuttle ride-sharing (similar to the LAX Limo thread). Any suggestions and/or recommendations appreciated.

Maybe we should start with a head count, of those who will be going directly to the PH from the airport AND also those who will be going from the hotel to the airport in the morning.

To ZRH PH from ZRH airport immediately upon arrival: hpaul, 1 person
    Total: 1 person

To ZRH airport from ZRH PH in AM: hpaul, 1 person
    Total: 1 person

(All things considered, especially the efforts LH and Hyatt seem to be putting forth, it’s a bit disappointing and surprising that neither can arrange transportation for us. I would imagine they each have all sorts of connections for buses and shuttles.)

I think ZRH transportation was left to our own devices purely on the basis that the PH ZRH is 100% optional (and many people are not staying there due to the high costs). If it was a mandatory hotel i'd get that.

My "Travel Agent" still hasn't locked me into a room yet, but it's not likely to be the PH even though I have an award room on hold there.

I can't remember how long the MegaDo's in Zurich, but the Zurich card's a good deal for more complex travel and museum visits and stuff. Also, trains in Zurich are easy.

You can buy it at the airport. The 24-hour version is 20 CHF and credit cards are accepted.

Add me to the list for sharing a cab to/from PH..... I will keep this list updated and have it @ LAX pre-flight - :)

For those of you that like to plan ahead, I will also add names that want to share a cab to/from ZRH- (Radisson, Marriot, Sheraton). I am not sure how close these hotels are to one another - so the separate list might be irrelevant....

    Got you....

BTW - I found a ZRH airport shuttle (zurich-airportshuttle.com) for 5-8 passengers for 100 Euros (12.5 Euro/pp if 8 are on board)... if we can fill up one (or two) of those, it might be better to book one. Any thoughts or experience with this service in Zurich?

Well, those of us at the Radisson are coming exactly from the airport. I will probably just take the train, as any extra exploring I do in Zurich will be dependant on how I feel after the flight

Thanks alphagirl. After reading the first 2 replies I was beginning to think I was alone with these thoughts, it’s nice to see a bunch of others agree with me. A shuttle would probably be least expensive, if nothing else we can share cabs to/from the hotel which should cut costs. Upon arrival we can also ask the hotel if they can assist with arranging transportation to the airport in the morning. My intention with this thread was to have it be self sustaining with ongoing lists on the thread that each person could copy, update and paste; like the lists below. You imply that you will keep such a list and bring it with you which would also work. The important thing is that we should identify and introduce (if necessary) ourselves at LAX or on the flight (maybe we should share seat assignments?), find out who has carry-ons only and who is checking bags, and then come up with transportation plan.

To ZRH PH from ZRH airport immediately upon arrival:
    hpaul: 1 person, carry-on only
    alphagirl: 1 person
    Mr. Silver Springer: 1 person
    zarubi: 1 person
    YUL36: 1 person
    ExPanAmer: 1 person
    Total: 6 persons

To ZRH airport from ZRH PH in AM:
    hpaul: 1 person, carry-on only
    alphagirl: 1 person
    Mr. Silver Springer: 1 person
    zarubi: 1 person
    YUL36: 1 person
    ExPanAmer: 1 person
    Total: 6 persons

I'd like to be added to the list for shared transport to the airport from the PH in the morning.

However, getting to the PH is actually rather easy by train and tram. I've done it before and its pretty easy even with a smaller roll-aboard bag. Trains to Central Station (Hbf) run every 10/20-minutes. Travel time is about 15-minutes. From the station it's a walk across to the tram platforms where you catch a #6, #7 or #13 to Stockerstrasse (4th stop after the Hbf) which is a block from Beethovenstrasse and the PH. The CHF3.20 train ticket includes a tram transfer in the city.

I will be using the train/tram option (as suggested by Canadi>n above) for going
to the Sheraton on Stockerstrasse, right across the street from the PH.

By the way, I believe the train ticket from ZRH is a "daypass" and valid for the
    day on Zurich public transport.

The link Tommy provided can be used to pre-purchase train tickets online, but this site has the official route-planner tool: http://online.fahrplan.zvv.ch/bin/query.exe/en

Here's a sample route from the PH back to the airport:

    08:31 dep Zürich, Beethovenstrasse 21
    >> Walk 4 min.
    08:35 arr Zürich, Stockerstrasse
    08:35 dep Zürich, Stockerstrasse
    >> Trm 7 Direction Zürich, Bahnhof Stettbach
    08:40 arr Zürich, Bahnhofstrasse/HB
    >> Walk 7 min.
    08:47 arr Zürich HB
    08:47 dep Platform 41/42
    >> S16 Direction Schaffhausen
08:58 arr Zürich Flughafen Platform 2

This runs constantly (every 5 min or so) and goes for CHF 6.40. If you buy it RT (CHF 12.80) the ticket is good for unlimited travel within those zones for 24h (which includes all of Zurich).

Note that the CHF 3.20 price mentioned above is the kid's price.

Radisson is directly connected to ZRH.
Sheraton is diagonally across from the Park Hyatt.
How about using the wiki to keep the list? Most people will be able to add themselves, and you can fill in others from the thread as needed. I created a page for you here: http://milepoint.com/forums/wiki/smd4-hotels-zurich-transportation/

Plus, while everyone's adding themselves to that, update your hotel choice too: http://milepoint.com/forums/wiki/smd4-hotels-zurich/

Well, going Blu was quite attractive since it was a good value for points earned for less than $100 in spend ;)
