    YYZ to Panama
What is the difference between AC:964 and
    CM:471(Copa) to Panama?
Both are *Alliance. Why compete with each other
    leaving at slightly different times?

Copa is probably ok if you are connecting to other places in Latin America. AC's flight caters mostly to Canadians with PYT as their final destination. I assume that both airlines have commercial reasons not to code share. I also believe AC already has code shares with Avianca ex BOG so that maybe the reason for not hooking up with COPA. .

Codeshares don't mean you don't fly your own metal. Each airline has commercial reasons to operate their own aircraft. Don't think of alliances like one airline, surprisingly some airlines partner with airlines who are direct competitors to alliance partners...each airline is its own business and must do what it feels is best for its ownership.
