"To serve you faster and to better protect your account, we will soon require that all members set up a PIN to be used when calling the Aeroplan Contact Centre. Make sure to share your PIN with anyone who may contact us on your behalf."

They provide a link to set up one's PIN, but when I tried in typical fashion I got the following message:

    "Sorry

Due to a technical issue, our web site is currently unavailable. Please accept our apologies for any inconvenience this may cause you. Be sure to come back later and try again.

    Thank you for your patience."

They will give 100 points for setting up your PIN by Sept 13.

Maybe you need to enter your special pin to setup your pin! :D

Do you feel more secure with it? Not sure why they think it will be a better idea.

That email also says that you'll be able to use your Facebook/Google accounts to log into the site if you want. I'm curious to see how many different things the Google process tells me Aeroplan wants access to....Name, Email address, Contact List, Ability to post on your behalf....I'm sure they will take as much as they can.

Actually managed to get something other than the error page. Turns out they only want to "Know who I am on google" and "View your email address"....not that Google doesn't already know far too much about me to be comfortable with it sharing. At least I no longer have to deal with the web page auto-clearing the password box and thwarting my use of a password manager.

This is to serve us faster. Apparently.

And with the better protection of our accounts, they want us to share our PINs?

I'm a little bit horrified at the proliferation of cross-logins being required. Fortunately for my sanity and privacy, I don't have (and don't plan to have) accounts on Google or Facebook. I'm sure Air Canada knows quite enough about me just from the 25 years of travel patterns.
