Yeah I miss the 2500 UA mile per stay promo that overlapped with the FFN promo and the Costco certs promo a couple of years ago...ahh good times.

I still have a dozen or more Costco certs... and my travel this year turns out to be very Hyatt-unfriendly (e.g., no Hyatt in Vienna, Austria and some US roadtrips where Hamptons and Holiday Inn Express will get all my business). So far I have had only one three night stay with Hyatt this year, so it's looking bleak for Diamond renewal... heck, even Platinum is at great risk. And this promo isn't going to change that.

Well, just grab the credit card since that is all Hyatt cares about anymore, and BLAM! Instant platinum. Don't bother to stay unless you are doing 25 stays or 50 nights, since otherwise there is no distinction anymore. 35 nights? 15 stays? Nah, same value as 1 night with a Hyatt Visa.

Yes, I know. But I won't do that until I have a concrete plan for those two nights (or Suite nights as long as I am still Diamond, I suppose). Going totally off-topic here... do they do soft landings, or will I drop from Diamond to nobody-who-the-hell-are-you? status next year if I don't get enough stays for Platinum?

Why would Hyatt not even offer bonus points for its own program? Add this to the fact that points credited to airline loyalty programs do not count for lifetime Hyatt status. If this is their only promo, then it is extremely disappointing.

I do hope Hyatt has a true and real promo during the late Spring and early Summer period. They should offer either a megapoints offer like 5000 bonus points per stay at any Hyatt branded hotel, or even better bring back FFN with 2 stays earning one free night. The current points promo is ersatz for the now discontinued Gx bonus offers.

FFN are MUCH better than any points promos. The irony is that:

    A)people want FFN the most
B)FFN do not lead to increased point inflation, like point based promos do
C)FFN only cost otherwise "empty" rooms

While I like getting tons more points for ME during a massive point promo, I hate that other people get them too, since that just leads to greater inflation and inevitable devaluation to keep the value of all those points in check. :) The paradox that comes with more points...That is why I hate that credit card...among other reasons, such as Hyatt's single minded obsession with it.

I am not sure about that one. If I have a need for a room and I have a FFN award night, the hotel is not getting all the revenue. Or do you think none of the free nights replaces revenue nights?

Ok, I concede SOME nights will be booked to replace revenue nights. My point was more that when you use a FFN, you are taking an empty room, they do not empty a room or guarantee a certain amount of rooms for FFN. If there are no rooms at say, the PH Vendome, you do not get to use it there.

I certainly see your view about points inflating GP accounts. At this time, I would be very happy if Hyatt would just offer some compelling promo. My 1st preference would be the return of Faster Free Nights. Are you listening Hyatt? If they want to offer a points based promo, it would be a second choice, but offer something big like 5000 GP points per stay at any Hyatt branded hotel. The program has become very disappointing in terms of promotional offerings.

GP had the most rewarding loyalty program with FFN & the Gx bonus offers, but it has become a shell of its former self. No FFN, no Gx bonus offers, and a limited number of locations make it much more difficult to stay with Hyatt. On the positive side, there are some truly spectacular Hyatt hotels, and their Diamond elite level's benefits of free breakfast, internet, and 4 confirmed suite upgrades per year are excellent.

The same applies to points, IMO.

The limited number of locations is really killing it for me this year. I'd need so many MRs or stays at suboptimal properties for my needs that it just isn't worth it. I'll lose Diamond and might even end up wasting a few suite upgrade certs. I love a lot of the Hyatt properties, so come next year if there is one that's convenient I may just have to pay for breakfast or club access. Still cheaper than a lot of MRs, I suspect (I might look at the math of combining the diamond amenity, the club closure compensation and this promo and see if Platinum at reasonable cost is possible).

If you get the Hyatt credit card, then you automatically receive Platinum status. The card is also worth holding onto as each year's renewal of the $75 fee comes with a free night award that is valid at a Cat 1-4 Hyatt hotel, which you will receive in the second of holding the card and thenafter. Hilton's Gold status offers many perks( free internet, free breakfast, room upgrade and upgrades to Executive floors) similar to Hyatt Diamond status minus the confirmed upgrade certs and access to suites, and the number of locations and competitive rates provide good value and choice for one's money.

Thanks. I found a few threads here and on FT that confirmed it. Could obviously always change, but good to know.

Yes, this year Hilton is getting most of my business. I am HHonors Gold and will renew that either via stays/nights or more likely via Amex spend.

Since I'll easily cross 11 stays, I'm diverting business to Hyatt (from SPG) for this promo and using it to top off my United account, miles which I have primarily from their credit card. I don't fly Star much, but it's nice to have a pool of miles for those times when United is the last, best hope in flying somewhere. An additional 24.5k is nothing to sneeze at.

Not quite the same...points last forever, continually inflating the system. FFNs last for a few months and have to be burned up or lost.
