The difference between "best flexible rate" and the "earn 4000 bonus point package" is 60CNY or 10$. Would you book it?
Have you booked a "bonus point package" and still received all the other bonus points that IHG is famous for? Right now I have more then 10 in my account...
For my last stay (71$) I received 17000 points...

    There are 2 considerations here:

    1. You can "buy" points 10,000 points for $70, or .007 cpp - 4,000 points would be $28. If you can beat that price, then yes, I would book the bonus package

    2. Bonus point package points count towards status, so if you are trying to qualify on points, then buying the packages is a good idea.

As to the additional promo codes, many of those are a one time use, so on your next stay, you will not receive as many points as you did on the first stay. However, bonus point packages do not prevent promo codes points from posting.

You might also look at the current China promotio for IHG:

http://www.ihg.com/hotels/gb/en/global/offers/offers/gcscreaming - earn one free night in China for every 2 stays, up to 4 free nights.

agree, if the price difference is only $10, then a bonus point package seems worth it. you can try to combine the Big Win, China Dream, bonus points package and promo codes...

There is a third consideration. If it is a work-funded stay I would not select the bonus rate since that is charging work for a private benefit.

Also check if the bonus is per night or per stay. If it is per stay and you are staying a long time it may not be worth it. Don't forget to factor in taxes not included in the displayed price.

Isn't that the whole reason they offer bonus point packages! They assume people traveling for business and not paying out of pocket will just be "Hey I'm not paying for it, my company is, so who cares, they'll never now". And they just book the bonus point packages.

1000 PC points are valued at $5, so 4K are worth $20. You getting them for $10, then that's a bargain ... go for it! :)

No, some of them are per night. An example - HI Anaheim Resort Area offers 10,000 points per night (Look for the package labeled reward yourself).

  21. yes, i shouldn't have been so definitive, i was referring to all the point packages from ambassador, 2,3,4,5K per stay, as opposed to what individual properties may offer, i've not seen any per night points ex ambassador that i can recall, in respect of the one being discussed, it was certainly for the stay
