OK. So based on the wikipedia entry for Mornington Crescent it's a game without any rules and the object is to be the first one to call "Mornington Crescent". If the game has no rules, then why don't you just start with "Mornington Crescent" for the win? Please enlighten me.

Such a move would violate the 1803 Hindmarsh Convention and if MC is played under the Sudsbury Rules as endorsed in 1957, as is the norm, would also result in a penalty shunt to Chigwell, a 7 turn forfeiture and revocation of the right to enter MC League games for the next 19 weeks. That is unless the players have agreed to the rare move of invoking the Chappell Variation of 1975, and specifically subsection 206(2)(i)(c).

Well, and who plays Chappell? OP, you may find the rather good guide at www.morningtoncrescentofficial.co.uk/beginners of some use. Alternatively, any decent bookshop should be able to find you a copy of the most recent rules, although I must say that the recent Novello printing leaves something to be desired.
