The girls at the FLL SkyClub told me a fellow DM coined the expression: "With all of these changes, we'll now get rid of the Cubic Zirconia."

Ah, a nice analogy.... but the problem is....the jewelry/precious stones mining and supply chain can only support a very few operators who deal in pure diamonds. Without the mass flow of cubic zirconia through the system, the entire operation - which depends on economies of scale and scope - becomes uneconomic.

Many airlines have tried the exclude-the-riff-raff concept and a high proportion of them have failed, often at short notice.

This reasoning could be said to embody not a new phrase, no indeed, but a well-worn and tested one that nevertheless beautifully encapsulates the entire philosophy and delivery of DL SM. IT IS:

Interesting so it seems that some within DL think they are now in the same league with the snobbery and the customer unfriendly attitude one usually associates with BA.

I wouldn't say riffraff, but as someone who will survive, I certainly wouldn't mind a more "exclusive" experience. It gets old seeing people with their bare feet up on the windows in the Sky Clubs and girls with "JUICY" emblemed across their rears in the F cabin.

But... perhaps their rears really are JUICY?

And for the record, I'm definitely not a snob. Regular, middle-class kinda guy just really into travel and perks. Heck, my Tumi luggage is worth more than my 14 year old Mazda!

As opposed to those ladies with tee shirts emblazened on the front with "BITE ME"?

Usually brings a wide smile from me when I see that and is quite uplifting to say the least, but as I'm only a nibbler, then my large smile and grin from ear to ear to ear will have to suffice. Besides, I'm married and the smile is all I'm allowed in that situation.

Those "Juicy" folks have to wear that on the backside so that their Ed Hardy shirt wearing boyfriends can spot them in the Skyclub. Seriously I think your being a bit picky. Besides I usually just see the tier below that with "PINK" on the butt. Maybe DL could start a new tier program? You know if you ride 20 segments you get to "CHEER", 40 segments you get to "PINK" and 100 segments you get "JUICY"
    :)

Those girls should just wear pants that say, "Look at my @$$!" since that's what they're really trying to say. :D

When I was young, one dressed up to go fly, and more so when flying upfront (but then, they served meals even from BOS to PHL. Drinks were complementary, and there were belgian chocolates and more in the galley flying TATL)

"Captain ! He took a whack on my behind"
"Captain ! Could you drop him off in the next airplane stop"
"Captain ! What do you mean the front cabin does not go to Orlando only the rear section does ?"

As a child and young adult, it was mandatory for me to wear a collared shirt and tie when traveling as a non-rev in F on my Dad's passes. TWA always put us in F, so it seemed fit to wear something nice. Wow, I remember those days! (FWIW, back then, we just had to pay the taxes. I remember them being something in the neighborhood of $25 on a transcon and $6 for a JFK-PBI or FLL to visit the grandparents).

Bottle she's holding almost looks like a bottle of Brut aftershave. Nah couldn't be.

Wow, those were high taxes you had to pay way back when. I remember having to pay $17.42 (really) per tix for two award tickets YYZ-DFW-LAS and back on CP and AA. No tie for me though, just sport jacket and pants....still.

Oh come on that's profiling. Besides I think I saw her on my last 3 day Carnival "booze cruise" out of Miami. She didn't realize she doesn't have to smuggle mini bottles onto the airplane. They will give you those for being elite with Delta :)
