Went to my first one last year, hoping that UA will open its doors again to people like us.

The event is less than three weeks away, starting to wonder if we've been kicked out.

I've been to two of them. A lot of fun. I keep an eye on the FT thread. This post is a bit disconcerting:

    http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/17125898-post11.html

Fortunately I am local, so I don't have to book a flight to SFO to attend... A bus will do.

If the reason for not inviting customers to the employee family event is that they just have too many employees attending, I'd understand, though.

    Same here.

Wonder if those select GS and 1Ks referred to in the other post are SFO-based customers. This 1KMM would really like to attend again this year.

    Well, this SFO-based 1K wasn't invited.

I was able to attend last year, and I do genuinely understand why they might consider closing it this year. They aren't quite sure how many people from PMCO would come, so they wanted to make sure they could accommodate all of them. Maybe next year things will open up once they understand the new numbers.

I'd guess they have some sort of RSVP system even for employees and their families and a maximum number of guests they can accommodate safely. I''ll see if I can find something out from my neighbor, who is an SFO-based UA employee.

Probably, and knowing how reservations go for this sort of event, they probably would not be able to open it up to the mp/ft communities until 2 weeks before when they are sure they are not filling up all of the slots with the combined airline

I think that post was referring to the united flyers community, not the event. But I'm not holding my breath on getting invited to the event either.

I saw an internal memo about this, lets just say entitlement in the FT community is not a pretty color but yes... select GS/1Ks were invited and all of them are local from what I was told.

You were told wrong, as I was invited and I'm certainly not local. Unfortunately the date doesn't work for me so I'm not going, but I did have the option.

I wasn't selected either, and am a local 1k. So far even the FT thread suggests it isn't going to be a general invitation this year.

Having been previously, I'd categorize it as interesting, but not a "must-do."

Makes sense. There are a lot that want to go just because they always have, and looking at the FT thread, I can't blame management from wanting to cut down

Sounds like they are looking at more than just status, and going for real travel influencers

Thanks for sharing this information Sethro, The memo does mention having High Revenue and Loyal Customers joining but that there was limited space this year.

I was not invited nor do I expect them to invite me however some p:rolleyes:sters on FT feel the entitlement to go because they were invited in past events is irksome.

That is an entitlement that runs throughout the FF community. "But I am a Diamond Guest" ;)

I'm just part of the group who was invited; I don't really think it was anything super special where I was hand-picked or such.

Sounds like that is in line with the new rumored "you are going to like it" Mileage Plus program where revenue is king and loyal customers are the ones that defend the company party line in the blog-o-sphere.

Maybe. But if the number of non-employee people they can accommodate is indeed relatively small, would you extend an invite to your best customers or a "first come, first serve" invite on some internet forum?

Then again, if WanderingAramean was invited, their selection criteria can't possibly have solely been profitability.

I was invited to the United Fliers Community. I filled out the forms the same as everyone else invited and someone at the PR company who runs it liked the demographic I represent. That's really all there is to it. But if you're more comfortable with the tin foil hats on then don't let me get in the way.

    Dunno, he is Global Services.

Or he might have been invited as part of the loyalty criteria.

I was referring to DIG/R_1K comment about the internal memo and the criteria listed.

Why you have to make it about you and in the process hurl an insult at me, is beyond me.
