    Sure, it's extremely dense, so it makes a nice compact counterweight.

    As for health and safety issues, there's this quote from wikipedia:
    The Agency for Toxic Substances and Disease Registry states that: "to be exposed to radiation from uranium, you have to eat, drink, or breathe it, or get it on your skin."

    Oh, I'm not doubting that, and yes, I figured it was for density issues. It's just the sheer randomness of it for someone who wasn't expecting it.

    Yeah, it's a new use of the stuff for me too! It makes sense though. They're trying to get as much weight as possible in a particular location.
