WineDo 5 - NYC Sunday June 3, 2012 post BRT

    5th annual WineDo.

    Sunday June 3, 2012 at 7:00 (1900).

    Cost will be $82.

    Place: North Square http://www.northsquareny.com/

    Here's the link to WineDo4 ... WineDo 4 - Sunday June 5, 2011 NYC - Tribeca - post BRT
The menu can be read at post 154.

Some notes from WineDo 3. Take a look/see so you can get in the mood. WineDo 3 - Sunday June 13, 2010 New York City - Greenwich Village

While the linked thread may look to some that we're bragging about what we own , the WineDo is open to everyone. The only qualification is that you have to bring a bottle of (drinkable) wine. Estimated cost of dinner is $80, which includes tax and tip. The majority of wine last year ranged anywhere from $25 - $200 bottle. Everyone stepped up. This dinner is a great way to taste and discuss wine, in addition to miles, points, and etc.

24 Flyertalkers attended last year... and we had 38 bottles.

For WineDo 5, You're expected to bring a wine that cost a minimum of $35, and a maximum of whatever you like. This is our first price increase. If you'd like to bring something experimental, it will have to be in addition to the minimum cost wine. After some previous discussion, this seemed to be the best solution. Also, several people talked about stepping up. That's fine. But rather than sit all the fancy wine people together [IMG], dinner will still sort of be open seating.

We drank some great juice last year. I don't know how we can possibly top it. Flyertalkers and Milepointers never disappoint. If you're not a drinker, you're still invited. They sell beer and other beverages.

Our distinguised wine panel mjm and cordelli, will coordinate what's drinkable. Last year we enjoyed multiple bottles of red and white wine. We could use a nice champagne to start.

    Can you join us?

    So far: 21, with a maximum - 24

We're going to raise the stakes for WineDo 5. Dinner will be wine themed, just like they do on the wine boards. Most themed dinners still have a starter champagne and white, not to mention an after dinner sweet wine. If you know what you're going to bring, please post to the thread.

Please note, the affordable lunch or dinner is planned for Saturday on the Brooklyn Reality Tour. We get to experience coach and first class on the same weekend. [IMG] Or in MegaDo speak, Tommy Class and coach. :p

OK, I am game. I will be in Paris this weekend, so I'll start looking into the wines. But, I have a "the Cave" (Ha'meara) bottle from 2003 (which was a very good year), and I will be willing to put the bottle aside if ms dlroads approves.

Do you have a paypal for collection, or do we use the honor code?

I did my wine notes writing in Paris. So, I am ready. Not going to bring $200 bottles, but I have some cards waitin'... heading to france again in April, and will do the fill at that time.

PS- do you have a seller at home? I will just load a case...

PS2- I am willing to contribute a Champage bottle to the 'group effort'. Again, only the best of France

Here is what I plan to bring:

    1) Madroña 2006 Cabernet Sauvignon Black Label (estate grown & bottled, only 48 cases produced - notes on the wine here). Madroña is a tiny winery in El Dorado county CA, halfway between Sacramento & Lake Tahoe - I doubt any of you have heard of them, but I think you'll enjoy this!

    2) Some sort of Port - maybe a New World Port from another winery in El Dorado Co. - but I am almost ready to go port shopping again, so don't be surprised if I come up with something else...

My pal on www.cellartracker.com enjoyed this wine when he drank it. His notes: Cassis, cedar nose; rich, cassis, cedar palate with firm tannins; medium-plus finish (100% new French oak). The up-to-date list of wine is posted on the thread on TOBB.

Cost is $82 a/i. All you have to bring is a bottle of wine with a minimum $35 value. We're going to drink lots of delicious wine. No plonk. This is a small price to pay to drink all this good juice; not to mention, talk miles and points!

    Last call.

By the way, even if you're not a wine drinker, you're still invited. This event is open to all, but we have a cap on the room. We're limited to 24. Dinner is $82 ai.
