I don't know what the status of bereavement fares is these days, but I'm trying to deploy some miles to get a friend to a funeral of a close family member of his.

Upon proper documentation (last name of my friend and decedent are the same, and obscure), does UA refund such fees?

In the pre-merger days, CO was very helpful for us when we had to get a family member to the UK due to a death. They waived change fees and re-fared the ITN to a bereavement fare. That was a couple years ago, but I was surprised how helpful they were (and I had no status at the time).

I'd like to think they'd be flexible. Call to the MP desk should help.
