Will AC extend use of 2010 certs into March

Discussion in 'Air Canada | Aeroplan' started by Terry Quinn, Feb 20, 2011.  |  Print Topic

  1. Based on the poor rollout of the ecert program, the fact many of us have not received our 2011 packages(not that it affects upgrade potential) and the fact they screwed up the additonal paper cert delivery it makes one wonder if they should not extend the paper cert period until say March 15.

I would be very surprised. I see very little upside for them to do so.

I would lean towards the answer being no. I suspect that they've decided to cut their losses for 2011, regroup and try to get some part of the process right next year.

Do not see an extension, suspect AC wants to get the whole mess behind them. Extensions would lead to ongoing criticisms re terms etc. Also, would like to get SE card. My BH received her E card almost a month ago so at least we can use that when returning from Asia early march!

No way. They really can't run the two systems in parallel from an IT perspective.

I don't think so. I am just hoping they would let the ecredits have a full 365-day shelf-life.

  10. They do run for the full 365 days

The ones that have already been credited do, but afaik there has been any information yet whether threshold e-credits earned throughout the year will be valid for one year or just the remainder of the membership year.

  12. They said they were studying that issue but rollout of the new program is more of an urgent matter for now. I suspect they will eventually have some rollover of ecerts into the next year. I'm sure one would obviously have to maintain status to extend use of certs though.

We'll find out as soon as someone crosses a threshold in March. I'll be doing it on the 11th if no one else gets to it first. :D

  14. I'll be close behind or passing through 60K right about then as well

If you're crossing on the 5th, you'll beat me to it for sure, I'll still be on my way back from NRT and several thousand miles short of 40K.

Should have gone there! There are a lot of IT savvy people on the boards. If I were AC (and AP for that matter), I would create a focus group to help with the buildout of the applications. After all, we are all users first.

  19. That being said, IT functionality for a Company with the needs of AC or other airlines is a major challenge with all sorts of GDS systems and bilingual needs for everything, etc. WJA had their share of grief when they tried to get a new platform up and running, and IIRC they wrote off $15MM or more before going back to square one.

I agree that any kind of rollout (whether IT or not) is a major undertaking for a company the size of AC. I have been part of a couple of cleanup crews after a project has gone bad (in one case after $100MM went into the drain).

All I was saying is that when rolling out programs such as this it is good to pick a good set of end-users that serve as a beta testing group (not unlike MP right now)

If only AC used beta testing group for their IT "enhancements"......

The eUpgrades seem to be working OK. The user interface could use some tuning and the notification email are pretty basic, but it does seem to work properly.

Good to hear. I have yet the occasion to use my eUpgrades. Quiet time in the Peg.
