    Hi everyone,

I'd like to share some exciting news with you about our plans to install Wi-Fi connectivity and personal device entertainment on our United Express regional jet fleet.

    Here are the highlights:

    Wi-Fi connectivity
    • We'll be installing GoGo's ATG-4 advanced air-to-ground Wi-Fi product on more than 200 two-cabin regional jets (E170, E175 and CRJ-700)
    • We plan to have the first Wi-Fi equipped United Express aircraft take flight later this year
    • Installation is expected to be completed by summer 2015

    Personal device entertainment
    • Starting early 2015, we'll also expand personal device entertainment to these aircraft
    • You'll be able to select from a wide range of movies and TV shows to view on your Wi-Fi-equipped iOS or Android device through the United mobile app, as well as your laptop computer

In 2015, we'll introduce a consistent Wi-Fi and personal device entertainment experience across our entire mainline and regional jet Wi-Fi equipped fleet, which will include subscriptions, the ability to purchase with stored payment, as well as a common in-app entertainment experience.

    Here's the press release.

I have a love/hate relationship with them (currently posting this from 18D on one now). Sometime early next year, I will fly my 500th segment on that type.

I'm pretty sure they want to punt those from the fleet as fast as they can.

gogo wants $50/month for the single airline pass, $60/mo for all airlines pass...so that sounds quite reasonable to me.

(i am curious how the gogo all airline pass might work with the regional wifi)

Bout time. I'm most excited by the consistent payment gateway and subscriptions. Maybe by this time next year, UA Wi-Fi will feel like a real, mature, tested product, not a constantly in-development beta test with zero consistency.

If you're carrying a tablet or laptop on board anyway (the devices necessary for accessing the streaming IFE), then you've also got ample opportunities to control your own IFE through an almost unlimited library of books, music, TV shows, and movies that you can download in advance, probably for cheaper than what an airline may charge for using their far more limited stored content library.

Because at some point I'm sure I'll be back on UA, and there's a good chance I'll fly enough to maintain status on two airlines next year. :D

Make sure that the internet isn't too fast..... Currently I'm a big fan of the on board wifi that cuts in and out, is too slow to stream anything, and I also enjoy that it is not available while ascending or descending...., that ensures I get 11 total minutes of wifi on my Ord-Msp flight.

Not trying to be a killjoy, but UA has lagged behind most of the timelines they set for themselves on implementation. I appreciate UA Insider keeping us up-to-date, I just hope they actually hit these goals.

Hitting this goal shouldn't be too hard, though being the first ATG4 70-seaters will mean a new STC is necessary (probably 3, actually, one for each type). That may slow things down but once that is done the installs are usually very, very fast for Gogo. At least they can be.

New E75s have power in F. Given that these fly on relatively shorter routes, I don't think lack of power is as big of an issue as, say, on A320s. I know UA have promised to install power on all mainline a/c (forward of exit rows, mostly), so perhaps these regionals will also be included.

Agreed. But the fact remains that UA is way behind and they have repeatedly missed milestones.

The E175s are starting to show up on AUS-SFO and SAT-SFO schedules.
