I am lucky that my iPhone is covered under the Computer Policy I have in conjunction with my Renter's Insurance...at $40 a year, it covers up to $3000 in computer-related damage, loss, theft, etc.

    :)

I use SquareTrade for my iPhone. One time payment for the insurance and only $50 deductible if something happens to it.

I bought a phone on ebay a few years ago, a highly rated ebay seller who offered the SquareTrade insurance. After a couple months the phone died, I applied to SquareTrade. They refused because they said it was a gray market phone. I pointed out that they were happy to sell me the insurance, and the seller still was a reseller of SquareTrade insurance, they didn't care, so I demanded they at least refund the money I'd paid for the insurance, they said they would but they never did. A complaint to ebay went nowhere.

So, my opinion is, don't count on them, they'll find loopholes to keep your money.

Interesting, I will definitely keep that in mind. Hopefully your experience was due to the gray market phone vs how they treat all claims.

They had no trouble issuing the "policy" and taking my money, and they continued to sell their services through the same vendor who was continuing to sell what they considered gray market (i.e. unlocked) phones.

Very unfortunate. I guess money talks more than principles.
