I was at SJC airport and trying to use the kiosk to check in my mom who was taking DL1056 and then DL 830 to BOS. I used her DL AMEX card which provided 1 bag checked in for free but the kiosks doesn't recognize this? Shouldn't it recognize it and provide 1 bag check in for free but it was asking me to pay 25$. I had to stand in line and then have the agent manually override it. I was under teh impression they would like more people to get the card.

Yes, but if more people get the card and also pay the bag fee out of frustration, confusion, or especially to save time waiting in line for an agent, DL makes even more money.

Just to confirm that all the key points were in place:

    • Passenger in question is the primary cardholder on the DL AmEx
    • Passenger's SkyMiles account was in the reservation
    • Passenger sees the fact that she has the card when she logs in to DL.dumb
If all those things are in place, the kiosk should have given the bag for free.

I've had instances where the kiosks failed to recognize my PM card (and the reservation bar code when checking bags). :(

    Hello MtKeller,

Details here. My moms ticket was purchased by Miles but on her reservation her Skymiles account # was mentioned. She has the card under her name but not the primary card holder. How would Kiosk distinguish for that since card already has her name on it? Didnt understand your 3rd bullet sorry.

The primary cardholder has to be flying in the reservation in order to get the free checked bag. My wife is a secondary cardholder but if I'm not flying under the same reservation as her she does not get a free checked bag. It's kind of a bummer.
