Why does UA keep removing the SEA->IAD redeye?

    Hiya,

From June through December, I was a regular on UA's SEA->IAD redeye. Then in January, the flight left the schedule, until it reappeared on ~Mar 8th. Now it's April 1 and I'm trying to book it for next week and it's gone again. A check of April May and June shows it may have left the schedule again.

Any idea why UA keeps bouncing this flight on and off the timetable? It's frustrating :(

    Thanks!

How about flight times to EWR other than 6am and 10pm?

I think UA is managing its SEA schedule to support DL's expansion at SEA

May I have help from an expert MPer please?

I'm sitting here booking another IAD<->SEA on Apr 23 -> 25 and all of a sudden the redeye is back. I can book a 10:10pm on Friday, Apr 25th direct to IAD getting in at 6:06am.

Now I'm totally confused, as yesterday I couldn't find any redeyes in April, May, or June by choosing random Tuesdays and Wednesdays.

Is there a way to see what's up with this redeye? Any ideas?

    Thank you,
    Garp74

I dunno, but it is on the timetables throughout that period. Maybe the inventory was zeroed out.

So weird.... I mean, it's GREAT news, and thank you, Seth, for the assistance. I figured my inability to book it for a few days from now could be no available inventory, but then I checked about 10 more dates in April, May, and June and couldnt find it. Maybe it was a cookies thing, or something weird...

Anyway, glad to see I'm not totally screwed on these trips like I was in early 2014. Yay :)

Also possible that they are toying with dropping it on T/W and keeping it for busier travel days or something like that, though right now I mostly see it bookable across the weeks.

First time I've ever seen someone truly happy about a domestic redeye flight.

It's a family thing. It takes around 8 hours with the time change to get from west to east. I have a set number of days I need to be at an office. So if I can go to Seattle on a Sunday night, work Monday and Tuesday, then take the Tuesday redeye home, I'm with my family when they wake up Wednesday morning instead of being home at 3pm+.

I envy people who can (1) endure domestic redeyes and (2) be conscious at all on the day of arrival. :D

The only acceptable domestic redeyes in the current route network is from Hawaii to EWR/IAD/IAH/ORD. Everything else is a  induced redeye haze.

Thanks. But I closed March with over 100,000 miles flown in 2014 and no one is happy about it. So any small things I can do to improve the situation helps.

 Actual miles flown already? If that's the case, you must be doing a lot more than just SEA-IAD.

3 months and 100,000 miles (BIS I presume).
At this rate, they should start flights just for you!
Jokes aside, I can certainly see how redeye flights help defray some of the time "wasted" on travelling.

It's mostly international. Travel season ends in 6 weeks. Can't wait.

I'm another who likes domestic redeyes. Especially when I'm doing a MR. I can usually fly out in the afternoon and be back to where I started by the next morning if I can catch the right redeye schedule. Plus I sleep on planes no matter what time of day it is. Something about the hum of the engines just puts me in a coma, so why not fly at night? :)

I was especially grateful for the LAX-IAH red-eye last Wednesday when I missed my last-flight-of-theday departure non-stop to DFW. I may have been late and tired, but at least I got to DFW by Thursday morning.

AA used to have a LAS-DFW red-eye I took frequently and hated. The flight itself was too short for good sleep and my connecting flight was always a 2-hour wait. I wouldn't have minded it so much with a tighter connection but waiting 2 hours to fall back into a seat and off to sleep was annoying.

I would always try to take that flight when I lived in Dallas. Definitely too short for any quality sleep, but I was younger then... ::heavy sigh::

I don't have nearly as much problem with the flight when it's my only flight. It was the standing around for two hours part. If they had minute suites back then I'd probably have bunked for an hour. As it was, I didn't want to take a shower because I wanted to sleep again on the second flight, so was trying to be awake enough not to pass out in the airport but groggy enough to sleep again. ;)
