Landed at ATL yesterday evening, OTW home from work, and saw one of the Porsche Cayennes at my arrival gate. Kevin, from The ATL elite services team (EST), was there to pick up myself and another customer who was connecting to my ATL-FLL flight. It would have been a 45 minute layover, but now I had time and didn't have to rush.

I gave Kevin some gift cards I had made for a few of the ATL EST members who had given me me my 5 previous Porsche rides. (Yes, yesterday was ride #6.) On my connecting flight, I was settled into my usual 1A when I felt a tap on my shoulder. It was another member of the ATL EST who has made his way to my flight to personally thank me for the gift card. I also immediately received a thank you email from the other EST member who had received his gift card.

So, why do I still love Delta? Decent product, great customer service and because they give me no reason not to!

Thank you to Larry, Sharonsky, Kevin, Mike and the entire ATL EST.

Wow, that is really nice service! I wish I'd get some of that, but despite being Diamond I seem not to have many tight ATL connections, which might make a difference. OTOH, I'm sure you're a much nicer person than am I also.

Ah, you're not that bad. (Sorry if I'm besmirching your reputation.):D

I'm a Diamond, too, but try to schedule longer layovers in ATL, and have never seen a Porsche there, much less been offered a ride to another gate. But since I'm probably lower than a Silver in MQD terms, I have no expectations of that changing anytime soon.

Nice idea with the gift cards. I agree that the customer service is well above average, most of the time.

My MQD would qualify me until 1016 so that is not it; alone anyway.

One of many unfathomable decisions made by Delta, up there with the position that Bud and Miller represent "beer" in the Sky Clubs. Maybe it is mostly a function of connection time.

If you gave 100 frequent business travelers sodium pentathol and had them fly 100 flights each on DL, AA and UA, I think they would rank their customer service and in-flight product in that order with DL winning by a comfortable margin and the battle between AA and UA a smaller gap.

Without the truth serum and with the subjective ranking of the mileage programs included, it's likely a different story.

No complaints with Delta. When there is an issue with cancelled flights or anything like that, their people are by far the friendliest. Unfortunately, their prices are really going up in HSV...

As does jbcarioca, I generally schedule plenty of connection time and also have a reasonably high spend. However, I have only been given a ride once, when I had a 40 minute connection and the gates were far separated. I believe that the ride closely correlates to the connection time.

As an aside, with AF F at CDG rides are always given. if the gates are close they'll offer the ride but ask if you'd prefer to walk. Most of the time I walk, but the AF rep always walks alongside and usually asks to carry our carryons too. the situation is hardly analogous since DL has no international F.

Once when I was boarding an AF flight at CDG, there was a group who came up the stairs just ahead of me, from the vehicle on the tarmac, with their handler/escort/whatever. I didn't immediately know what was going on, but the escort introduced them to the pilot and then, in confusion, seemed to think that I was part of the group and introduced me too. I received very nice service on that flight. [Fortunately I was in business class--no FC on the flight--or it would have obviously been awkward.]

As a general rule AF FC passengers are treated more or less like that including for connections in/out that do not have FC available. I have no idea who these people might have been, but i am regularly introduced to the head purser, Captain and co-pilot(s),

recently I was in an AFA380 FC on International Womens Day when they had 100% of the crew female. Mrs jbc and I were offered a tour of the cockpit led by the Captain, which quite delighted us. We were told that they have 11 female A380 pilots of whom four are captains. Altogether a memorable flight. Every AF person with whom we dealt that day was a female with the single exception of one waiter in the FC lounge.

I would argue that the customer service and in-flight service for the average AA EXP would out-rank the published top tiers on DL and UA. Although admittedly the AA EXP would have to struggle through life without the prospect of a gateside Porsche pickup.

I also schedule generous connections, and my reward has been zero Porsche rides :( and zero missed connections :).

An interesting notion -- celebrating International Women's Day by giving all the men the day off!

My only "Porsche" ride was in MSP right before Christmas. They didn't have the Porsche yet, so the vehicle of choice was an SUV of some sort. This was a Saturday with a long connection. Since then, I have had long/short connections at MSP/DTW/ATL and have yet to see a car of any sort (even picking someone else up).

I agree, with the added proviso that Concierge Key outranks all by a comfortable matin especially for IRROPS. However, as a CK myself I've never seen a car pick me up. Frankly the only car pickup i personally value is neither the AF or LH FC ones but is the EK car pickup from departure point and the car to take you from airport to final destination. That is nice! The Porsches, MB,s etc are nice, to be sure, but they're all overkill IME. of course i have never had the pleasure of Delta's. The CK habit of picking up ones luggage is a real treat. I have no idea if DL has anything similar. If so I've not heard about it.

Another Diamond I know was travelling with his wife and daughter, perhaps a year ago, with a long connection and overnight in Atlanta, and they were picked up at their gate upon arrival and transported all the way to their hotel. First and only time I have heard of DL doing that, though I believe they had to use the hotel shuttle to return the next morning.

It means you blow a lot to money on them. However, it is really great with OTTOPS. Luckily I have had few of those with DL recently nor have i had close connections, so I cannot personally attest to some areas of DL improvement i hear about. As i Diamond I'm usual;ly surprised to see how much more it costs to fly DL than it does to use AA, for me that is, so I fly DL less and make Diamond mostly with lots of AF/KL flying.

As almost strictly a domestic flyer, I can attest only to the handling of IROPS at DL and for me, it has had a perfect record over the past few years. There have not been all that many (maybe a half-dozen) and each was handled exactly the way that I wanted it handled.

Also, domestic fares and international fares are completely different stories. I agree that AA beats the pants off DL on most international routes, especially South America.

But domestically, at least on the routes that I fly, except for some destinations from MIA, AA is almost totally uncompetitive both in coach and first. I guess that might change if they adopt the US pricing model for the short business trips up and down the east coast. What does not figure to change at least for a while, since US also uses so many of them, is the preponderance of those RJs on so many important routes that it frequently disqualifies them from my consideration.

See, I would argue the same, and yet folks tell me my experienced as an EXP are outside the norm. I so rarely run into employees who won't go the extra mile for me when I'm flying AA.

I've heard they will begin a similar service at DTW but not with Porsches. Cadillacs.
