    HI All,

Which airlines who will eventually to joins the SkyTeam Alliance. I know for which airlines has already signed the deals to join the SkyTeams in 2011. CI, MU, GA is expected to joins the alliance in 2011. What about other airliens who haven't signed the contract to joins SkyTeam Alliance.

    Lets the speculations begin.

    Regards

MEA will join next year. That's official.
9W will probably join as well. That is more or less official.
EK are unlikely to join an alliance, and if they should, I am not sure it would be ST.
PR? Don't know, but think they would join *A, if any alliance.
UU will probably follow AR into ST.

    "More or less official"??!
It's rubbish. AF-KLM are going after AI, because it will get them huge leverage with the Government of India. A380 slots, increased route authorities, etc. 9W is happy to be playing the field right now, a la Alaska Airlines.

Hopefully... as that makes it more likely that Jet would go to *A, I assume :)

    Not really
*A really screwed themselves by backing out of the deal with AI. They should have never gotten into it in the first place. But needless to say, the DCGA (governing body of aviation in India) is probably gonna try its best to make sure that the "big 3" 9W, AI, and IT stay out of *A. Personally, I think that 9W is gonna stay allianceless and play the field like many of the middle eastern airlines. *A will probably end up with SpiceJet, IndiGo or similar...

I am by no means an expert in Indian airlines, but I wonder who's getting screwed the most in that scenario. *A? Jet Airways? The Indian people? (and yes, I agree that *A should have never even started with AI)

But isn't their situation somewhat more comparable to a US or European (legacy) airline with a mix of domestic and international routes? Will they be able to compete without an alliance in their domestic market?

*A would lose the most. AI/GoI would lose nothing, with their SkyTeam membership. 9W can play the field well, as I will explain next. The Indian people still have plenty of options, although they do unfortunately largely lose the oppertunity to focus on *A But *A will lose serious connectivity within/through India, which is an emerging market that has massive growth potential.

Their domestic is fed like Alaska. with MANY international airlines giving feed, and strong O&D. Their international is largely A&D and connections/codeshare driven... They can thrive with feed from the likes of B6, etc.
