I know many here have little use for the elite luggage tags that come in our yearly elite kit. In fact, it wasn't until the merger that UA elites actually received such things, an enhancement from the CO side of the merger. Received my 1K kit today and was quite surprised to see the tiny luggage tags this year. But the drink vouchers are a bit larger!

    Smaller, and no longer personalized.

Think of it as when your luggage's lost or damage, it was nothing personal.
Certainly not because someone recognised the name on the luggage tags :)

Well... I'd just be glad if I actually got my elite card. Forget about kit or luggage tags...

Given PMCO's record on tags I am happy to have these genericized tags.
PMCO had no tags for some years, small plastic tags towards the end, Big Brass tags that had delible ink (not like indelible ink) and leather and metal tags at various points in OnePass history.
I would vote for last years tags every time, however. The best tags (actually tag holders) were the all leather ones that came in the International Amenities kits in Business First some time ago.

That was me last year. I gave up asking for the kit.

mystatus.united.com claims that the package has been shipped.

"Your Premier Gold membership materials are on the way. They should arrive in 4–6 weeks."

Not sure how they ship it that it takes 4-6 weeks to reach me in the US. Bike messenger from Chicago to California?

In all likelihood you made 100K PQMs late in December, so expect a second kit soon. So enjoy 15 drink vouchers instead of just 10 in the 1K kit. And if the 1K kit doesn't arrive by the end of this month, call and request a kit.

    I also got my 2015 1K kit...

    1K Material.png

and it is not only the luggage tags that shrank. In fact, I would have been happy if that were the only "benefit" that got smaller, but listed as a new "benefit" for 2015 is this:
    • 11 award miles for every dollar you spend on United flights - that's more than twice what you'd earn without your premier status.
Left unsaid is that whereas before 03/01/15 a trip to SIN on a $1,700 W ticket would earn me 42K RDMs, including the 1K elite bonus, based on the "11 award for every dollar spent" that they are touting as a new great benefit for 2015, I would earn only 11 RDMs/$ * $1,700 = 18.7K miles, i.e. 56% less!!! I can't wait for the 2016 1K kit when they would tout the elimination of all the award redemption charts as a benefit designed to simplify the redeeming of miles because the computer would figure out the costs for us, whatever they may be...

These folks think that we are really stupid, don't they? The reaction to DL's award charts disappearing act was so overwhelmingly negative around the blogosphere that one can only hope that they have finally overreached...

Yes, the 1K tags ARE smaller, but at least the GS tags are "regular size," with the nice little card holder.

Now, I wonder where the colored luggage handle covers are?

Personally I like the "smaller" tags. I have had to repair/replace several of the older/larger tags after they were snagged and snapped off.
And they are a reminder to me of "smaller" things to come.

I like the smaller tags for my carry on stuff. Maybe I'm odd on this but the big credit card sized ones are too big for my taste. I like the half credit card size tags personally.

It's not the size that matters :)

True, it's the proper use of said item that matters.

I think the breakage is mostly a matter of how flimsy the material is. Anyone notice that both card and tags are even thinner plastic than last year?

My old AA tags are 2-3x thicker and virtually indestructible.

The tags were nice when they had our name on them. I miss you, Continental. I see us 1K's get 11X$. What do the GS get? I suppose it is much better, huh?
