One has more legroom but its a middle seat, and the other has less legroom but it isnt a middle seat. What would your seat preference be for a 12 hour transpacific flight?

Neither are great options but I would rather take the middle seat in the exit row especially if the restrooms are towards the back of the plane. You can guarantee you will have peeps bumping you the entire flight if they are.

If the exit row seat is one of those where people waiting for the lav or just to stretch their legs tend the congregate, I don't like those. In that case, none of the above, really... In fact, I'd probably pick the aisle seat then and get up frequently and walk over to the exit row space to stretch my legs ;)

For me it depends if I have a connection and how long that connection is.

Seconded. On a long flight, I like drinking a lot and getting up a lot, and so prefer the aisle.

As everyone here points out, however, it depends on the plane's layout.

On a 77W, I sure as hell don't want to be the last one out of Y, face huge lines at customs; i'll take the middle seat and hope that my prison mates aren't too obese:cool:

For US arrivals get a Global Entry and it will take you under a minute to clear passport control. If you travel in/out of Canada, then get a Nexus membership and it will include Global Entry for free.

one thing to be careful of with exit row seats- not all of them recline. I'd check out seatguru.com

How easy is it to get a global entry? Cost? And the flight is actually LAX-HND on ANA All Nippon (777-300ER). I guess I should have posted the route at the beginning of the post. My bad.

If you are a US citizen or permanent legal resident with a clean background, pretty easy. $100 (reimbursed for UACO 1k and Plats later this year). Takes a few weeks to get processed, though.

But on LAX-HND it won't do you any good, obviously.
