Which StarAlliance Program is the easiest to reach the highest status?
The one you fly the most!
Seriously, it all does depend on which airlines you fly. I believe you will get the same answer for the other alliances where you asked the same question.
Different airlines give different amounts of qualifying miles for different fare codes. And there may be other conditions (e.g., UA requires at least four segments on UA metal for any UA status level). And then some airlines (LH?) give you two years to renew status. So ... really not an easy question to answer.
In terms of ease, US Air lets you buy the status, so that is probably the easiest. It may cost you less to get the status by flying.
This was going to be my answer. Super easy. Just not cheap.
I believe it costs $4,000 to purchase the necessary miles for Chairman's Preferred status.
So does UA. You can purchase all the PQM you want via the award accelerator (or whatever the mileage purchase program in connection with an existing reservation is called). $9530 for 100,000 RDM and PQM for me at the moment.
There is no Star Alliance status above Gold, so I'm not sure what you're asking.
No one should pay the full $3,999 since it's $2,999 if you've flown just 1 mile or segment.
But that would be more work. He'd have to fly one segment. We were asked the "easiest" way, not the cheapest.
Do you get any RDM out of that $3K purchase, too, or just elite-qualifying miles?
For some people on this board, Dr. Scottrick PhD, flying one segment is easier than earning an extra $1000. to you too.
ETA: Usually costs less, too.
The "easiest" way in that sense might just be to fly 100K miles.
I don't believe so, you're essentially just purchasing the status.
Agreed. I didn't dispute the easy-ness, just that no one should pay $4000 for it when 1 segment/mile reduces the cost by $1000.
It matters: are you looking for a *A program to use on a specific airline for specific airline benefits? Or for a program that will give you Star Gold (the top alliance-wide status)?
If it's the latter ... Aegean Airlines. As little as 19K miles flown on many partners.
Thank you for all the reply, I also ask my friend who is a million miler, her answer to me is Aegean Airlines.
I Agree it is A3 or TK at the moment. Used to be BMI.
Another factor to consider is the length of status validity. I do no know about the US carriers but A3 lasts until the end of the current calendar year + 2 years. Getting nearly 3 years of *A Gold for 19K miles is not a bad deal.
I am affraid TK is so unreliable... and their IT department still deep in 1980s. Recently they just cancelled tons of accounts (mine incuded) because we used Award Wallet to monitor our accounts... with no notice what so ever... So, I recommend using A3...
A3 is actually end of calendar year + 3 years. Mine expires 12/2015.
Wow, is that what happened?? I noticed my AW kept erroring out on TK, so I went to the site to log in, and got the captcha thing, so I assumed that was the problem. When I logged in, was prompted to enter a new PIN and then got a message that my account is cancelled.
My email enquiries so far have gone unanswered. Very poor service. And that was my *G account!
Hmm, that explains why I can't have my TK acct updated. Oh well, I ended up using it on my trip to get A3*G, so not big loss.
Yae, thats what happened. No info, no note, no e-mail, notning. Two e-mails asking for clarification, nothing. My account was also *A Gold, thanksgodness, with zero miles, since just got a status match from TK. Very poor service... why are they awarded every year... ?? Miles and Smiles service is approaching the level of some black-listed African airlines...
Mirohacek, can I ask what Current frequent flyer membership you used for the TK status match? Am travelling this year in May on a number of their flights and the use of a lounge or two would be very handy with a TK gold match.
You can actually use any program, even *A ones... I used UA Milleage Plus... with Premier Gold status... but be prepare for slow show, their respose time is awful...
