    Hi All,

I'm flying to Connecticut in April for the Navy...was really worried they'd booke me on US or UA vice AA or DL...WHEW...on AA. It's a full Y, but I cannot upgrade a full Y fare (military) on AA...unfortunately...I know they do not do so TATL, not sure how it works with domestic u/g.

GLAD to say my trip is LHR-ORD-BDL-ORD-LHR. That said, I have a 35 minute layover BDL-ORD-LHR - going from an American Eagle flight to the lovely 777 across the Pond.

Anyone think I'll have an issue...I'm a little worried, but it's a Friday night, so I have weekend flexibility on the way back.

    Any thoughts?

    :)robin

It will probably take you 35 minutes just to get out of the plane. I personally wouldn't chance it.

I have to wait until the gov't pays for it to be able to modify the return flight. I am just surprised that's a legal connection at ORD. I need to look to see what my options leaving BDL are as well. :)

I would have a plan B. American Eagle is usually Terminal 3 concourse H or G. I believe the LHR flights would be in K. That's quite a walk.

Absolutely. If you arrive on the high Gs at the end of the spur or the lower level and have to trek all the way over to the mid/high Ks, that's insane. 35 minutes to deplane and make your way over is extremely tight.

And that's assuming that everything is on time. Eagle flights, especially from smaller airports, are frequently late and seem much more vulnerable to cancellation...

    All,

Thanks for your thoughts - this is in line with what I already know. When I saw 35 min at ORD from AE to mainline, I knew it was not to wisest connection they could put me on. The government refused to let me return to LHR on Saturday...that does not mean I cannot mess with it once paid for. ;)

There is a 4-something BDL-ORD that I will try to switch to once this is ticketed.

    :)

Good. I would definitely change it to something else. Too chancy the way it is - everything would have to go just right to make it.

Not sure I understand your statement about not being able to upgrade because the Y fare is a military fare. I thought all Y fares were eligible for upgrade, but I haven't flown on a military fare in over 40 years, and things do change. :)

For what it's worth, I fly on government fares from time to time when work calls for it, and those are always upgradeable. I've never tried to use a eVIP internationally though to test the eVIP's stated limit.

Well, AA says the SWUs are not usable on military fares:
    • (bolding added.)
    • One other thing to remember about your connection is that the 35 minutes may not all be available, since AA closes the door about 10 minutes prior to push-back, so you may have only 25 minutes to make the connection.

    • Still, if it was a legal connection, which it appears to be, AA should take care of getting you on the next flight or on some alternative routing to your destination, and in the change-over they may allow you to upgrade.

I believe OP would be upgrading with miles though, not SWUs.

That pushing it.....The Eagle flights are in concourse G and the 777's are usually at the far end of H/K so that's a pretty long run...any kind of inbound delays and you're screwed.

I don't really see it as being screwed, I just know I might spend the night in Chicago. It's a Friday, so I will not be rushing to get back to work the next day.

My sincere thanks to the AA ticketing agent here at BDL! She confirmed me on the 4-ish pm flight to ORD, so making my connection will be no issue. :) Ah, no sprint though ORD and enough time to get Garrett's for some folks in the UK.

    :)

I suppose I'm quite lucky that there is a Garrett's directly across the street from my office buiding. When I get off the EL in the AM for work the entire street smells like caramel.
