I want to use AA or BA miles for domestic trips around Argentina. Should I find availability on LAN and then call AA or BA to book them? I think BA might be a better bet for one way flights within Argentina, but I'm not sure. Can anyone help?

You can go to BA.com and search there after you have signed in. They will ask for the use of other partners and you click on that. It should be simple. Good luck.

Why will I only need 6,000 AA miles? Is this because of the award chart for LAN?

See AA award chart - http://www.aa.com/i18n/disclaimers/aadvantageAllPartnerChart.jsp

Notice on the mid-upper right hand corner. 6,000 miles for selected countries in South America and Argentina is one of those countries. Since AA does not fly intra-Argentina, you will be redeeming AA miles for LAN, which means you will need to call AA and pay the $25 phone fee unless you are an EXP.

Thank you for the info. 6,000 miles is great. Some of the flights are over $400. I appreciate the help.
