Where should I credit my mileage: JAL? or AA?

I am planning a long haul trip with my two sons that will be about 15,000 miles each on AA flights in December.

With the 1,000 mile bonus info from JALPak :)
    http://www.jal.co.jp/121campaign/jal_oneworld2011/index_en.html
plus the combinability of family miles on JAL, I believe that we can earn a grand total 48,000 JAL miles for this trip.

I will not be needing the miles to make a status threshold on AA.

One concern is that JAL award redemptions seem to have hefty fuel surcharges. :(

AA awards on JAL flights have no fuel surcharges.:)

Any advice on the best way to credit these miles?

JGC? Japan Global Club? I have a JAL visa with CLUB-A. Does that mean that I qualify JGC?
How do I bank the miles to AA and have the points count toward JGC?

My boys said that they want 1A and 1B everytime.
They liked the instant ramen better than the biz meal though.

    There's no 1B on JAL 767 and 777

Check the sticky for JGC info. But if you are close to 2MM, just stick with AA then

No you need to bank the miles to your JMB account. But you can bank your son's towards their AA accounts

No 1B? I wonder what seat number that was. We flew it this past August.

So you would recommend that I bank my own miles seperately on JMB until I reach JGC and my son's on AA. Sounds like a good plan. Thanks!:)

You can get OW Sapphire and use OW lounges when traveling on OW carrier as long as u pay your annual JAL Card fee. You can even set up a family account in Japan and give the rest of your family who are above 18 OW Sapphire status if you are willing to pay the additional JAL Card fees. That is unless JAL changes their JGC program again to downgrade those JGC members who don't fly enough to OW Ruby (which they should IMHO)!

    It's 1C.

Actually for this trip you might want to bank it to AA. It's pointless if you can't make JMB Sapphire before end of Dec anyway

Actually I depart in Dec and return in Jan. With that realization, I am now thinking of doing half half.

    Will do.:)

Changing the subject a bit, what is the best use of JAL miles?

The current fuel surcharges seem to negate many JAL award redemption values for me.

Are there any good One World redeptions that do not charge fuel surcharges?

that's why i suggested putting the miles to AA instead  If you are willing to pay for insanely high upgradable fares, upgrade award might not be a bad option. Other options include domestic tickets which are ridiculously high (well let's see how LCC will shake things up)
