So I recently flew from SIN to BKK and went to recline my seat on the nice new, clean aircraft. Couldn't find the button so asked a FA - "it's a new plane and the seats don't recline".

No indication when booking that this was the case, never heard of plane with non-reclining seat before. Makes all those questions about etiquette mute:( Was okay for a short flight and had middle seat empty but it would have been awful for a longer flight.

Is there any was to tell when booking if the flight has this config? Any other airlines with non recling seats?

You will see more of this. Saves weight, less breakage, etc. And makes the limited space IMHO more liveable.

Another issue is the ability to know this BEFORE I book - does anyone know how I can make sure this is not the case for flights either on jetstar or
are there any other airlines people know of that also have fixed seats?

Spirit. I'd advise against all low cost carriers for this and other reasons.

I don't mind seats that don't recline. I mind seats that are uncomfortable. I almost never recline in economy on UA or CO, but I dread the flights in CO economy. In UA E+ I'm just fine.

Obviously no one has flown RyanAir yet... their seats DO NOT recline at all...

But I usually fly outside the US mostly Asia and I'd flown on jetstar before so was quite surprised this time. Seat guru doesn't help :(
