I'm planning a trip to Norway next year (2013) for three people to see relatives. When is the best time to purchase tickets to the region with UA or SAS?

Are you asking what time of year is the low season for airfare? Or what time of year you should buy your tickets for set dates?

I'm more interested in the low season for airfare.

I think March-May, and September-November would be the cheapest flights. I've been there in the fall a few times, and its wonderful.

What city are you leaving from and what city are you going to? UA only flies to Oslo, SAS will fly to other cities besides Oslo

PHL OR EWR. If I fly out of Philadelphia, There is a long (4-5 hours) layover in Newark airport, so I might just ride a train to Newark airport. I was thinking month of May as well. I found $916 RT from EWR in May for UA.

SAS only flies OSL-EWR at the moment, so if you want a direct flight, then you'd have to go to EWR. If you don't mind connecting, you could go US PHL-CPH, then SAS CPH-OSL.

I don't think US fly to CPH. Actually, I think they never did (According to Wikipedia, it is not listed as a former destination)

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/US_Airways_destinations#Europe

A couple of years ago, you could fly direct PHL-OSL.

erp - you're right. I'll chalk that up to the US Airways route map not being user-friendly. I clicked on CPH, and PHL was highlighted...

Finally reserved 3 seats with UA miles for 60,000 RT + $75 fees per person. We are flying out of EWR.
