Wondering who else has noticed this before and if I'm doing something wrong.

I have a business class (JN) award ticket booked for someone who already flew the outbound. They wanted to change the return date and city (xxx-EWR instead of yyy-EWR). I load up the award ticket on United.com and click the Change Flight button. I enter xxx-EWR and the new date and click search. The non-stop flight shows up but only says standard economy seats are available, no standard business. EF shows JN=4.

If I start a new award ticket search from the United.com homepage then standard Business seats show up for the nonstop flight. Why?

What's different between searching for it from the existing reservation vs searching from the homepage? A 5 minute call to UA 1K line got the flights changed out with no problem. I don't mind having to call - just wondering why there's a technology fail here.
