*I've never started a conversational thread before, hope people find this interesting!*

Maybe I'm the only one, but for some reason I have a general obsession with how airlines choose to identify and market themselves. Based on the general outcry over United choosing to phase out the Tulip, I'm guessing I'm not alone! ;)

Growing up in Japan and flying on JAL, I've always had a strong affinity for their tsurumaru. I was thrilled when the re-instituted it this year. I even use a vintage JAL bag with the tsurumaru logo for my day to day work trek. Other vintage favorites: Air India's maharajah and Qantas' kangaroo.

One that I'm not so fond of? AA's currently livery. I'm not sure why, but it's never struck me as very grand.

So what's your favorite (or least favorite) airline logo/livery/mascot?

Always liked this one. May be due to the simplicity.

I don't think you're alone on that. The Pan Am logo seems to be the most popular airline logo to put on items these days. Stores and shops that sell airline items seem to be loaded with Pan Am branded tshirts/bags/etc.

A founding member of Oneworld before it went under, right? I grew up in Japan and didn't move back to North American until I was in my teens. I have a familiarity with a lot of Asian carriers, but some of the older NA ones (Canadian, TWA, Braniff, etc...) I've never seen.

One can still travel on PanAm, but I don't think the experience would be the same.:D

I still think the AS Eskimo livery is one of the best. I believe I actually met the man who was the original "model" for the emblem.

The first time I ever say the AS logo, I thought to myself "Looks like a guy, but that can't be it....." To this day I'm still struck by the livery. Very unique.

I think the post-bankruptcy Delta widget is great, a smart recovery from the rounded-cornered abomination Landor made of it. The logotype and livery are a little bland, though.

The 738 Chester with Lei looks better ;)

Uh Red...you wouldn't be liking this just because there's a female on the tail? :p

Seriously though, for the fact I do not like HA the airline for their not so awesome FF program,I am a big fan of Pulani on the tail;the tail painting and the purple flowers are simply beautiful :)(plus this is their nice new A332!). I'm also a big Chester fanatic.
Funny, for my domestic travels I've flown the most on HA and AS :p

"Not so awesome." A polite way to say "seriously and truly crappy?" :)

Emu Airlines flew from Adelaide to Kangaroo Island until about 2005. It's stylistic Emu logo was interesting. Naming an airline after a flightless bird did little to inspire confidence in me. Returning from the Island I was seated in the co-pilot seat. Guess it was his day off!!!

I have said this many times so I wanted to be nice this time ;) Seriously though, no F upgrades, no reciprocal benefits on DL,UA or AA plus a horrible hard product = fail :D

DestinationDavid... I don't know about you.. but this Antipodean (who had obviously never seen an AS aircraft before) took one look and wondered why they had Bob Marley on the tail! :)

Personally I like the old NZ livery.. and the new TG and OZ paintjobs...

The related content is that they interview Massimo Vignellii who designed the current AA livery...It gave me a newfound respect of the "current" livery.
