whats the deal with all these offers to buy your MR points/airline miles?

    i get junk email or see postings on craigslist etc.
    people offering top dollar to buy miles/points?
    how is this possible let alone profitable?
    are these consolidating agents that work for the airlines/AMEX?
    it costs us an arm and a leg to buy, transfer, exchange miles. how can they do it and make it worth their time?
    are they just scams?

    without seeing any of these mailings, my guess would be that they're either scams or buying them for a fraction of their worth to turn a profit

    Most are probably scams and even if they are legitimate, it's a good way to get your account closed if you're caught selling miles.
