    About 6 years ago I used US miles to fly DCA-ORD-LAX(UA)-KIX-BKK(TG)-SIN-NRT(SQ)(stopover)-IAD(NH) all in first class. Not only was it my first time to Asia, it was my first time in int'l first and my first sips of Dom Perignon. Not bad for a (at the time) 22 year old, huh?

    This was all in F for 120K UA miles.

    map.gif

    I needed to get to MNL and there was no trans-pac award availability on the dates I needed.

    I was grateful the agent was willing to book this routing - but even in F, this trip hurt!

    Edited to add carriers:

    LH F SFO-FRA, HKG-MUC
    SQ F FRA-SIN, SIN-MNL, MNL-SIN, SIN-HKG
    UA F MUC-ORD-SFO

    I guess these are pretty tame in comparison to some others:

    Both using US miles - 160k and 150k respectively.

    I've done SFO-JFK-ZRH-MUC-KRK stopover KRK-FRA-CAI-HRG-CAI-FRA-ORD-SFO all in F and C on UA/LX/LH and got to enjoy the FRA LH FT and FL Think it was like 135K miles or something

    About 90K miles to redeem FUK-BKK-ZRH-BKK-FUK in C/F (all legs highest available class on the plane flown) on TG due to their 50% birthday promo

    well best miles redemption was 2 business awards from Chicago to Warsaw on DL and AF in June (high season) for about 134K miles. Each ticket was 100K miles, but there is a Amex MR to DL 50% transfer bonus and 25K MQM, so not only did I get 2 tickets for 67K each, I also got silver status :) (But it's a ST award. There was nothing at all on *A)

    Washington DC to Bali and Hong Kong, with 24 hrs each in Tokyo and Singapore in C on NH, AC, SQ, UA and JL (irrops) for 90k UA miles, booked 11 months out under the wire when redemption rates were increasing.

    It was an awesome trip, and it was great to be able to see 4 different places on the one trip.

    It's true that it was "only" business class, but AC's business class is quite nice, and we ended up rebooked in the F seats (sold as C) in the nose of the 747 due to IRROPS on NH. (Astute Star Alliance travellers will note the NRT-DPS line below, which is not flown by Star Alliance.)

    I did this in whY for 25k miles: (LHR-AMS-KBP-SVO-AMS-NWI)

    [IMG]

    I consider it one of my best redemptions, given the absurd cost of flying this on other than an award ticket. My destination was SVO. I used both a stopover (KBP) and an open jaw.

    The rest of my trip comprised three additional paid tickets on 18 or so flights

    It's not much compared to some of the others, but I booked (and wrote a trip report) LH F for SEA-FRA-ZAG-DBV-ZAG-VIE-OTP-FRA-SEA which I thought was pretty good given the MPM rules that were being forced at the time.

    Looks nice!

    Was this an RTW award or a mix of one-way awards? Which FFP and how many miles if I may ask?

    It is three one-way awards: LGA-BKK, BKK-CPT and CPT-SJU (with a 2 month stopover in NYC). Total was a hair shy of 200K BD points and ~$800 in taxes. The taxes are brutal, but better than paying for it out of pocket to be sure.

    More about that particular booking here: http://boardingarea.com/blogs/thewanderingaramean/2011/03/award-booking-awesomeness-part-2/.

    From a straight cpm value perspective, this one is actually surprisingly good:

    [IMG]
    (Click the map to read more details about it)

    Getting a $2200 itinerary for 25K miles is always a good thing!

    That's pretty much the same reason why I felt I g:)t so much value out of the itinerary I listed above. Mine would have been in the $2k range as well.

    I was most happy with a very last minute redemption in F ZRH/BKK- on Saturday I found out that on Tuesday I needed to go to BKK for work- I wanted my partner to come with me as she had a week of holidays- initially I was told "no availability"- I bought a ticket at my expense- the next day award availability opened up- refunded the ticket and she flew with me in F for only taxes (330 EUR) in F. While not a super long award- the savings were very impressive.

    I read about this. Awesome award find! If I had a hat on (it's hard to find ones that fit my big head), I'd take it off for this. Congrats!

    My best award was an F redemption to JNB for 160K mile in 2006.

    I flew as the outbound on the award:
    ABE->PHL (USX Y - single class plane)
    PHL->CLT->LAX (US F)
    LAX->NRT->SIN (SQ F)
    SIN->JNB (SQ C - 2 class plane) Destination

    Nonaward flights JNB->VFA->JNB (MN Y)
    JNB->NLP->JNB (Federal Air - single class plane)

    Award return
    JNB->SIN (SQ C - 2 class plane)
    SIN->BKK->NRT (TG C - 2 class plane)
    NRT Stopover
    NRT->LAX (NH F)
    LAX->PHL (US F)
    PHL->ABE (USX Y - single class plane)

    [IMG]

    Flying the "wrong way" around way the only way I could find award availablity.

    Recently booked this for next Jan. YYC to HDY the long way. All F except for BKK<->HDY which only has J:

    [IMG]

    120K Aeroplan miles, $160 CDN each (no AC segments, UA, LH and TG). Highlights will be FRA FCL and FCT, BKK spa full body massages and hopefully the new F configuration on the LH 747 from SFO to FRA (click pic for more info):

    [IMG]

    We are proud of the fact that we are not frequent fliers, with all of our Aeroplan miles coming from promotions and regular spending credit card points. By keeping our ears to the ground we are able to do one of these every 12 months or so. By avoiding AC and LHR we also manage to keep the costs low. Amazing what you can get for "free". :)

    Two *A redemptions, one trip to be taken May-June 2011:

    US North America-North Asia in F (120K miles): SEA-SFO-NRT(UA F)-HKG(NH C, dest)-ZRH(LX F)-FRA(stop)-SEA(LH C+F)
    CO intra-South Asia J (30K miles): HKG-SIN-DPS(SQ C, dest)-BKK(TG C, stop)-HKG(EK C)

    [IMG]

    There is an additional AB one-way+ DB train ticket (FRA-TXL, train to LEJ), and a second DB train ticket (LEJ-FRA) not shown on the map... but those aren't *A flights.

    150K miles for F/J, stops in HKG/MFM, DPS, BKK and FRA on a RTW itinerary. I rather like this one. I actually MADE money getting the CO miles, even after the award (bonus for opening checking account).

    At this point, the only thing I would REALLY want is to do is drop the NRT segment to fly UA SFO-HKG if UA F space opened up on UA 869, which is somewhat unlikely (but I will keep an eye out for it), or have someone screw up at SQ and open up SQ 1 for *A redemptions in F or J, which is being-killed-by-a-meteor unlikely. Everything else is just about perfect- the HKG-ZRH segment is timed as an overnight flight, the intra-Asia flights are all timed during daylight hours, and FRA-SEA takes me straight home.

    Called UA 1k reservations January, 2010 for travel MIA-CDG June, 2010 for goalie-parents and 10 minutes later I had 2 Saver First awards at 135,000 miles each for $333.60 a/i (taxes for both tix).

    MIA-MUC-CDG on LH
    CDG-ZRH-MIA on LX

    (and needless to say, goalie-parents were very happy ;))

    Flew this route last year for 40K US DM miles a person. Check out the trip report at my blog.

    HKG - BKK (TG F)
    BKK - DXB (TG C/was supposed to be F but TG withdrew F from that route)
    DXB - IST (TK C)
    IST - SVO (TK C) /destination
    DME - FRA (LH C)
    FRA - CAI (LH F) First time in FCT! totally awesome!
    CAI - IST (MS C)
    IST - HKG (TK F)

    Pretty cool that the flight route ended looking like an arrow :p
