A few members of my family have tens of thousands of Aeroplan points that are bumping up against the 7 year expiration on Dec 31, 2013. They aren't able to travel this year so a straightforward redemption for award tickets is out.

Is there anything they can do with them other than redeeming for gift certificates?

You can move them to US Airways. points.com takes a 15% cut, but at least you can still use the miles for travel. Oh, and BTW. US Airways does not charge fuel surcharges.

    good to know.

  5. Remember that pretty soon the US/AA merger will happen and they will be one world members. so make sure you are comfortable with being on AA when you do use them and make sure AA points don't expire.
