I am new to MRs and have an overnight trip coming up staying in Tuscon( at airport Doubletree). Will be arriving early PM. Any suggestions where to easily go and see by myself? Thanks all and apologies for typo Tucson. The MR is actually EWR-IAH-LAX-Tucson and reverse the next day 0.42cpm. Since hubby not coming, am seeking easy to access etc. sightseeing (never been there) to get an idea what it is like.

Well, I live in Tucson but haven't been single for a long time. What type of things interest you? Clubbing, Arts, Scenery, History?

For some action, the Desert Diamond Casino. It's right near the airport.

TUCSON not Tuscon. Sorry, feeling a little territorial.

Whatever, I'm typing this on my phone. Between the stupid auto correct and tiny keys I'm lucky to get as many words correct as i do. But either way, Tucson for a MR is a new one on me.

Do I need to duck if I suggest going to Phoenix/Scottsdale/Tempe?

    I've stepped on this landmine:D

too bad it is a MR & you don't have more time.

    my suggestions:
Do some Hiking, lots of good trails in/near Tucson, one I like: Sabino Canyon: www.sabinocanyon.com (there's a tram if you don't feel like walking too much)
Drive to top of Mt Lemmon: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mount_Lemmon
Pima Air & Space Museum: www.pimaair.org
    Titan Missle Museum: www.titanmissilemuseum.org
    Try local/unique foods -
    Sonoran Hot dog: www.tucsonweekly.com/tucson/best-sonoran-hot-dogs/BestOf?oid=1360235
    Peruvian: www.incascuisine.com
    Upscale: Cafe Poca Casa www.cafepocacosatucson.com

we like Tucson so much that we are planning another trip back for spring 2013.
yes:D Tucson is a great fun, loads to do.

The only reason I'm looking to get back to the Phoenix/Scottsdale area is to tour the Musical Instrument Museum: www.themim.org

Between the two. Go to the Desert Museum. The Art Museum is good, and has some really good shows, but on just a MR Trip, not so much.

Another place is the Center for Creative Photography on the University of Arizona Campus. This is a Full Academic Photography Center. They have a fine museum, but the archives (which takes advance notice and permission) is the best in the world. They have most of the remaining Ansel Adams Photos and negatives.

You forgot the classic Mexican Restaurants (although there are several hundred). South Fourth Avenue in South Tucson.

Mi Nidito. President Clinton's favorite. Small but reasonably priced. http://www.minidito.net/main.html
    Guillermo's Double L. Janet Napolitano's Fave. http://www.yelp.com/biz/guillermos-double-l-restaurant-tucson
El Parador. On Broadway East of Downtown http://elparadortucson.com
La Fuente. On Oracle North of Downtown. (Favorite of the Snow Birds and NorthSide Residents) http://www.lafuenterestaurant.com

All are decent. But our favorite is Guillermo's.

. I second that but is somewhat of a zoo rather than just a museum. Not sure how the OP feels about that"

Tucson is a fab city! Go to the foothills and book a day at a spa like. Mirival or canyon ranch
Go to Sonoran desert museum or drive to tombstone
Walk around 4th ave near UA if you have vestiges of hippie
Really good food about there is though I don't play
Great golf to add to above and fun shopping
    Watch the sun carry water
