What program for Air Berlin miles?

A relative is going to fly Air Berlin between the US and Germany. He doesn't have any frequent flyer accounts and is unlikely to fly much in the forseeable future, so I am looking at what to do with the miles he could earn with that roundtrip.

I suspect he booked a discounted economy fare, which will likely only earn 25% RDM with AA or BA. Not sure about Air Berlin's own program. My current thinking is that I could create a BA/Avios Family Account (need to do that anyway to merge my wife's and my Avios) and add him to it, so I can use his miles and reimburse him for the benefits I derive from them.

    Any other suggestions?

He didn't happen to book that AB flight as a codeshare on AA, did he? If so, full AA miles. Otherwise the BA Family account doesn't seem like such a bad idea.

Quite unlikely, given that he booked it in Germany with a German travel agent.

Ah, well yeah. Not much to do with those miles in that case.

It's going to be about 2800 miles. Not worth worrying too much about, but if I can syphon them into my BA account, it won't hurt :)

Apparently the fare qualified for 100% on BA, and so I am expecting nearly 12,000 Avios (the outbound has posted; I requested both retroactively).
