Over coffee this morning I realized a pattern of entrance to MP. Generally the page I'd link into will either be travel-Asia or miles | points (fitting isn't it). Occasionally to a great page set up by Gargoyle Master Photo Thread .

From here I wander quite a bit, but it's these pages from which I access all else.

Where do you begin the MP experience?

Almost every time I go straight to alerts. I have only been here a week so I am not convinced that's a pattern.

I start with the alerts, see who has responded to me and if i should reply. Then I work through the destination travel page to see if anyone launched new photo threads, (and to see the new photos people have uploaded) I add any new pages to the list. After that, general wandering around different forums.

Alerts and then I look through the Trending Topics to see if there is anything of interest there. From there it's more random.

I start with Alerts, then go to the Forums page to check if there are recent postings in areas I like such as Newbies, Airlines, Hotels, FL Lounge, Community, Timeshares, and I look at the latest number of MP members. Then I click What's New, to get started, and go back and forth between there and my favorite Forums.

alerts, watched threads, then I check out What's New? I quickly scroll through the 5 pages of What's New to see if anything catches my eye.

I have a Firefox link to the MP home page with "Forums" highlighted/selected. From here, I check Alerts, then usually What's New.

I go straight to forums (http://www.milepoint.com/forums/)
I check out the vital statistics (including trending topics), and hover over my "alerts" tab if there are notifications highlighted.

Guess I should start with Alerts, but I usually go to Forums, see if anything catches my attention, then to Alerts to see if there are any new posts...

I have 18 tabs open on various locations on MP ... I refresh them all, grab a coffee and sit down and round-robin through them to catch up -- most important ones on the left, lesser (none are least important ;)) on the far right.

I haven't closed my browser in a few weeks now, so I just click back on whatever forum I was last in. Then I look at the alerts.

I start at the main forums page, and will then hover my mouse over alerts if there is an alert for me ;)

    I as well. :)

That seems backwards to me, as there will be some duplication between watched threads and alerts. I start with alerts, as viewing those will then "mark" the threads as read. When I then proceed to watched threads, the ones I've already viewed are gone. Done in the reverse order, that isn't so, as the alerts are not cleared when you view the thread mentioned in the alert.

My MP day starts with inbox (if there's anything in there), then alerts, then watched threads, and then returning to the main forum page to seek out my preferred forums (generally Alaska Airlines but occasionally a few others if I have time). I find it mildly frustrating that there's no way to subscribe to a forum (as on The Other Site); while I understand it forces users to be aware of the wider site as a whole, it's also an annoyance and leads to me forgetting to contribute in places I do have expertise and interest in if I can't find/don't see them on the main forum listing.

Also, I should note the alerts aren't perfect. Depending on the alert you click, you may not necessarily be taken back to the first unread post in a thread (which is one argument in favor of starting at watched threads rather than alerts), and the plethora of "your post in xxx was liked by zzz" notes is fun at first but gets annoying to scroll through. I don't want to turn the option off to be notified of likes, since it's still neat to know others appreciate your content, but I wish it were a bit better organized.

My bookmark since signing up has been to /beta so I am still feeling the pioneering startup spirit. [IMG]
(The beta-page is actually still there...) Maybe it's time to change to the regular forum home.
