These devices particularly with their GPS capabilities have put the resources within any travel destination right at one's fingertips. What are your favorite iphone/ipad apps when you are trying to navigate a new location?

iPhone App AROUNDME has been very helpful in locating places, expecially when walking in Big Cities. My wife and I were in NYC, spending an anniversary weekend at The Plaza on an FNF rate. We had a few shows planned and a few specific places reserved for dinner but did not usually have plans around lunch. As we were out wandering around the city, we would use AroundMe to find a place to eat without having to take out a book or ask someone on the street for directions. We would just search under Restaurants and it would guide us to several choices near our current location. We found several local diners and had great eating experiences that we may not have found without the APP.

I just downloaded Google Translate. I'm pretty jaded when it comes to technology, but WOW. This is a MUST GET for anyone with an iOS device. Can't beat the price (free). I had it translate (and speak) "I do not like ice in my water" into French, and laughed for about 5 minutes out loud.

Isn't this the same as what's in this thread?

I love Trip It! I also have a few airline, hotel, weather and translator apps. I have to get that Google Translator one. Oh, and I love the FB Uploader app for pics and videos to FB!

  8. Tripit is the bomb, I credit it for getting me through security in the CAI airport last fall - they were asking for boarding passes to get through to the agents. You know, the ones who give you the boarding passes? Showing them my Tripit confirm was good enough, I guess.

So I am still searching for a really good offline map function - like, I'd like to find something that lets me download maps w/o having to use roaming, but there's this app called AllSubway that is offline and maps of pretty much every metro train arrangement in the world. Super handy. Same with offline Wikitravel. AllSubway is a big app (>20 MB) but for a transport dweeb and control freak like myself, it's one of those things I didn't realize until I had it how much I can't live without it. Wish I'd known about it when I was in Tokyo.

TripIt is awesome and have been using the Pro account from the start. My only gripe is the app is not universal so it doesn't allow screen rotation.

I really like TuneIn Radio on the iPad for finding favorite or local radio stations quickly. See my review here.

  16. DuggedUp of course!!! Guarantee you can play the game an entire flight and not beat it! In fact, I would say you could fly for months playing it and not beat it....many hours of game play! Over 20 levels and nearly 200 hidden objects. Good luck hunting! Available in Appstore now and coming to Android this month.

Another useful app is the Mercedes-Benz mbrace app (also available for Android). Not only can you locate your car, lock the doors, and unlock the doors, you can also search for a destination and send it to the car's navi.

  25. Forgot to post that DuggedUp is free on the Droid right now. Sorry. Thanks for the Welcome by the way!
