Could a 1K (or newly minted plat) stand by for free?

Thanks for the quick reply! So if the departure is 2 legs on CO, and the return is 2 legs on UA, I would not be able to stand by on the 2nd CO leg, because the itinerary is not totally on CO metal?

But if I could find it on CO web site with the UA metal legs sold as a CO codeshare, standby would be allowed on CO segments? Hmmm... wonder if I could buy 2 one ways?

If you are flying LGA-IAH-SFO and then SFO-DEN-LGA you can definitely do free SDC on the outbound segments. It is worth noting that the CO reps may be confused as they see the *G notation in the status and lump you in as a "gold" rather than properly recognizing the 1K status that doesn't have the fee for the SDC but the fare rules are pretty explicit that it is permitted.

Yes the itinerary is similar to what you posted, CO out, UA back. But if I get a CO FF #, there will be no confusion I hope.
