What are some things you got through TSA?

My main issue with the TSA is their inconsistency. I dont care if i cant bring XYZ items, but at least be consistant about it!

A coworker used to travel with a "Magic Bullet Blender" in his carry on for almost every trip, the logic was that its better to have a fruit smoothie in the morning than deal with crappy hotel breakfast. Good times were had until a transfer at SFO and in a re-screen a TSA agent caught it. After a 10 minute discussion on their **** up, eventually it was returned to my coworker and we continued on our day.

Myself? 2 (metal) pocket knives, they're "magic" knives which I use to keep up with my sleight of hand when im bored, lock pick set, and a ceramic knife set I picked up at a trade show.

Ive been stopped for the lock pick set before, but it was returned and I continued on my way.

I dont normally try and get away with things, but batman happens and you forget.

    Your stories?

A few years back a Marine I was dating gave me a switchblade when we were in Monrovia, Liberia and I accidentally left it in my backpack which was a carry-on. It made it through Liberian and Belgian security.

I'm always surprised when nail files get through. They can be deadly.

Three or four days after September 11th 2001, a friend was travelling from LHR. Security was confiscating nail clippers (lest someone should threaten anyone with a manicure). Once through security, my friend popped in to the Boots drugstore where, of course, they were selling nail clippers.

A lighter each and every time during the lighter ban but the best part of this charade was when I was using the (now closed) airside smoking patio in T-6 at LAX and a TSO on break asked me for a light and I handed him my lighter where after he used it, he handed it back. Feel safe donthca folks? ;)

I'm just happy to get myself thru security without some kind of additional massage therapy. (I have a surgical joint implant/replacement.)

I have usually gotten through without pulling my liquids out. This last time going through pre-clearance at YVR I pulled out my liquids after being asked (before it went through the machine) but forgot about a can of shaving gel which was in my bag. I was asked to remove it so they can see but they deemed it was ok for me to have and I went on my way with the can of shave gel.

In 2003 Customs found one of these in my laptop bag after a trip DCA-BOS(exited/re-entered security)-SEA(exited/re-entered security)-RJOI(last leg was the old L-1011 Freedom Bird to MCAS Iwakuni)

I had put it there at some point during packing and forgot about it.

Sometimes I bring sunscreen and face cleanser that I've squeezed into Ziplock snack bags (and pack along with my clothes), does that count?

Was late for my flight last year and had a small bottle of water in my hand by mistake and went through TSA without anybody even saying anything. Realized that I had a bottle in my hand once had to get my suitcase from a conveyor.

I tried to get a water buffalo through once but since it was associated with liquid they would not let it through unless I could get it into the baggy!

I used to carry small tubes of lip balm and hand lotion in my pocket, but ever since the grope-or-scope regime, that's out.

Late for a flight at SFO forgot I had a leatherman in my carry on. The TSA guy was very nice about it, let me head out and do one of the mail to yrself deals and then skip the line on my way back to complete the inspection...
