What’s Your Point should be the name of this forum instead of the generic and milquetoast Off Topic — but that is merely my opinion.

Also, this is the first time I have ever used the milquetoast word milquetoast in my life — and hey, this now makes three times!

    Anyway, what do you think?

the famous CASPAR MILQUETOAST applauds your efforts ever so delicately. He asked me to tell you that he does not wish to be 'off topic' as it were, but rather to tend ever so cautiously towards the possibility of considering that possibly it might be conceivable that "what's your point?" may have undeniably possibly positive effects on clarity.

I don't know if I can coil my mind around that concept. It is rather shocking, you know.

Shocking, to be sure, but harmlessly so, unlike the more adventurous solutions of Thomas Edison.

What's your point? It's perfectly proper (so far, anyway) and it's in off topic, which is a rather rare combination.

its one of those things that we sort of tossed around ... trying to not become too cute with any forum naming conventions. As it is we just could not find a better name than 'Local Point" for that test concept, though we did start out it being considered "LocalPoint" or "localpoint" From the view of 30,000 feet, "off topic" just seemed the most descriptive for any member in their navigation without having to explain or click in to for discovery. But, having said all that, it is a very clever idea.

I've seen similar forum sections titled "The Water Cooler", since people stand around the water cooler chatting about such a wide range of topics.

I think I like "What's your point?", but if we write MilePoint and LocalPoint, perhaps it should be NoPoint.

    Water you talking about?!?

Water usually has nothing to do with points — unless you are talking about tips of land adjacent to large bodies of water, such as Moss Point in Mississippi or Montauk Point in New York.

To me, What’s Your Point fits naturally for milepoint.com regarding the “sharing of point”s — although I must admit it is not a new idea, as I thought that that would be a good name for the OMNI forum on FlyerTalk several years ago. However, What’s Your Point is...ahem...miles away from the typical naming conventions on FlyerTalk which uses “Talk” or “Buzz!” as a common suffix, and What’s Your Talk? or What’s Your Buzz! did not exactly work.

Also, the name What’s Your Point evokes an encouragement to share what one has on one’s mind — with a limitless scope and therefore a breath of fresh air, albeit minty — whereas the current forum name Off Tropic is limited only to stale humid discussion about travel and other activities north of the Tropic of Cancer and south of the Tropic of Capricorn. Should the Tropics not have rights, I ask?!?

At least I am not being Capricorn-icious about my comments...

the only problem with "What's your Point" is it comes across rather "in your face".

...not if it had a forum description such as “We would like to know” or “Please share what is on your mind” to accompany it...

It could be pointless too--status points, that is--but let's call it NoPoint.
