I wouldn't want to make long term plans for this barrier island. The Diplomat in particular sits by the shore where the beach is already almost entirely under water. But the island will likely survive at least one more bust/boom cycle before disappearing under the rising ocean.

Oooh lots of unhappy SPG members there will be about this. This property gives elites great upgrades and is a favorite of many.:)

All beaches by their very nature are under water:) It must pointed out that the great majority of the property acquired sits on the inner side of intercoastal so not relevant to your theory.
Have you actually been to the Diplomat? I put to you that the beach here is not any narrower than say Fort Lauderdale Beach.

This property is pretty much unparalleled for Plat upgrades. As folks on FT used to say, a Plats would receive an e-mail apologizing if they weren't getting an upgrade they were so common.

    I'll certainly miss it.

I agree the last two times I stayed here I was ungraded to huge corner suite with two balconies probably my best upgrades ever as a SPG plat. ( ....perhaps just as nice as the one I got at the W Hong Kong)

I don't think you'll find a property that believed more strongly in "wow-ing" Platinum members.

Sadly, there are plenty of SPG properties who don't go out of their way for elite members, especially when it comes to upgrades.

Too true...it seems like the majority these past few years. The SNAs have also been unremarkable IME...

Unremarkable is an over statement. Most of my first batch expired. I expect the same with the second batch, though I did score nice upgrades in Italy this summer.

Great news for Hilton Honors members, this place is due to become a member of the Hilton program's Curio brand. Along with the new Conrad due to open up the road there will be some great properties all concentrated .....just think the W, The FL Hilton Beach resort ,The Atlantic ( a former very, very nice SPG property) and the Conrad all within a few blocks of each other.

Is Hilton has becoming the dominant player in Fort Lauderdale? :)
